Dealership Agrees To Change Brakes

Featured Replies

I picked up my Superb from a non-Skoda dealership in South Wales last week and the first time I drove it was on the long journey back to Horley, near Gatwick, in Surrey. Driving it away from Cwmbran I didn't notice anything untoward but 45 miles or so later something was clearly not right. Having cruised down the M4 with no problems at all for 40 miles I was suddenly faced with some bunched up traffic and had to brake moderately sharp and was met by a loud rumble and a vibration that went through the car. Needless to say I was more than a little shocked. I pulled off at the next junction to have a look at the brakes through the alloys and saw that the discs were covered in rust from where the car had been sitting on the forecourt for so long. The drivers side front was the worst and obviously took the brunt of the weather.

I called the dealership to let them know what had just happened and they assured me that if the symptoms of the rusty discs didn't soon pass then they would have them changed for me. I agreed to run the car for a few days, braking fairly sharply where it was safe to do so to see if I could wear off the rusting and rid the car of the rumble and vibration at high speed. Well it's been a week now and in that time I've covered 600 miles. My final test was last night coming down the M23 getting off at Gatwick, braking sharply again on the slip road from 70 mph down to 30 mph it still rumbled and vibrated. Not to the level it did the first time but enough to make me think it'll be ages till it goes, if at all.

So I just called the dealership to let them know and they told me to book it in to a local garage asap and they would pay for new front discs and pads over the phone. It is now booked in to be done on Wednesday of next week, and just to make sure there is no funny business from the dealership I have told them that the garage doing the work will request payment before the work is carried out, which they fully understood and agreed to.

I have to say I do take a bit of a gamble when buying my cars in this manner, having never seen them in real life before driving them home, but situations such as this kinda justifies my faith in dealing with salesmen/dealerships in this way as it could have been so easy for them to just fob me off and tell me to jog on.

And alot would, I'm sure. I think you've been rather fortunate!
