1.8T a weak engine

Featured Replies

The cop was right.

Yeah, there is 400bhp 2.0 Evo, but it won't last long. It was done up by a tuning company, not Mitsu. Forgot the company's name.

Car's with such small engines should not be having so much power, that's why they make V6s, V8s and V12s going up to 6 litres. They are MUCH more capable of handling that kind of power in the long run.

Had an interesting bank holiday. Was talking to one of the traffic police who drives (amongst other things) an unmarked octavia vRS .I must stress it was purely a social chat!

Reading behind the lines (and not wanting to say too much!) the suggestion was 140 mph every day is not doing the car much good. Was suggested the engine is a bit small for the kind of motorway work and the preference was for the volvos (2.3T's?).It was described as a 'little' engine

Strange... All the traffic (and response) officers that I've spoken to about the vRS love it.

There was a 'police stop' type program a while ago with a T5 estate being outrun by an Octy.

He didn't say they didn't like it ;):D

Yeah, but what I mean is that a lot of the ones I know have actually either gone out and got an Octy for themselves, or have seriously considered it! :)

Thats why I got mine!

T5s are the choice for motorways, for everything else its the Vrs. We've never had any problems with the Vrs, and its about the only engine that doesnt fail on a regualr basis, its a polar opposite of an Astra (turbo broken again, now there's a suprise)

As for if the engines are 'tweaked' -no comment :D

Could you use:

You might think that, but I could'nt possibly comment...

...just so we are clear

with all the equipment that the police have to carry the power to weight ratio would make it alot slower than the standard item. would make sense to have some 'adjustments'. :)

Interesting read :D

Strathclyde Police has at least one (unmarked) Superb 2.8 V6. It's silver, so it looks like half the taxis on the road here! It's actually damned hard to spot - seen it on 4 occasions recently and on 3 of them I was beside it before I recognised it.

Just do a duty with a pc thats completed the advanced driving course. His verdict, Skoda beats all of the other force cars in handling and driveability, even the volvo estates. Only car that came close, was the top of the range Mondeo.

Going to have to mind our p's and q's ;)

You're forgetting the FQ-400. Comes from Mitsubishi with a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty.

I think the main thing to remember here is the cost of the cars in question. The V50 T5 (in silver, with four wheel drive) costs
