New owner query

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have my new Octy 4 weeks and I am very happy with it, however I have two quick queries about some things that has been bothering me, and I am hoping you will be able to put my mind at rest.

1. I can hear a ticking noise. This is there when the engine is running, but it is also there if I just swtich on the eletric's (turn key to Mar). Is this a problem? I am concerned about it.

2. When I have electric's only on all the warning lights go out after a few seconds except the EPC and the symbol relating to the exhaut. These do go out when the car is started. Does this indicate a problem?

Thanks in advance guys

Hi Denis

Stupid me. Elegance 1.6 MPI

Mine doesnt do either of those (unless I've just become used to it and not noticed)

classic 1.6mpi

Some (old) Octavias exhibit from a pronounced ticking at times from the valve on top of the activated charcoal cannister in the engine bay. I would guess that the New Octavia is fitted with the same system. The secondary air pump also makes a noise which can be disconcerting. (The FAQ here explains these noises). If all the lights go out when the engine is started, and do not come on subsequently, then everything should be OK. Stop worrying and enjoy your new car. :)

Another Irish member, wow the site is getting popular these days :D

Welcome aboard

I've sent you a PM

I brought it into the dealer last night and at first he wasn't sure, then he went off and checked another elegance and can back saying it was the fan from the aircon. He said when the aircon it not on the fan still rotates at a low speed and this it the slight ticking noise I am hearing. Said if the aircon is on the fan will increase to operating speed and the noise will go, and that it was the same in the one he'd just checked. Basically it normal and nothing is wrong. My heart wants to believe but my heads not sure?

On the warning lights he said they should go out when the ignition is started ... which they do.

I checked the lights this morning on mine - they do indeed come on and stay on till the ignition is turned on... I'd never noticed before!
