New Tyres Fitted -Hankooks

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Replaced the original front Continentals on the vRS with some Hankook 'Ventus V12 Evo' rubber yesterday. Reasonable price £88 each fully fitted via Blackcircles on interweb.

Very impressed so far - seem much quieter, handles sweetly and abit more comfy ride than the old tyres (perhaps unfair to compare them directly to the worn contis I know).

Bloke at the garage was slightly shocked that the original rubber needed replacing after 13k. Explained to him that it is a fairly rapid car and some people go through tyres quiker than that on them - but he still kept looking at me like I must be the boy-racer 'supermarket car-park burnout and doughnut champion'.....! :bandit:

Having the fronts on my VRS changed today.

My first thought was the Hankooks, but I have been offered Kumho KU39's by my local Skoda dealer at £74 each fitted and I am going to give them a try.

The reviews of these tyres read quite favorable and I will update after I have done 100 miles on them to report on how they compare to the Contis.

Changed my Conti's at 9.5k. Trying Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalines which seem OK. Take a while to warm up though

My next tyre will have to be quiet!!! The Dunlops are making terrible noise on the high-way to a point where I often double check that I've got the windows fully up! I hadn't noticed that before I switched to the cheap and soft Nexens for the winter, and then back to the Dunlops in April. I was shocked at how much I could hear the road. If you really saw a difference coming from Conti's I guess It will be much more noticeable from the Dunlops so I think I've got a next-tyre candidate with the Hankooks.

When I got my front tyres replaced on my old A4 (before I realised the joy of Skoda), I got the tyre place to balance the rears while I was there and it made one hell of a difference. Less noise and a much smoother drive. I knew it would make some difference as the rears were about halfway through their life, but was totally surprised by how much. Just something to think about when next at the tyre fitters'.

Defo go for the Hankooks then, much quieter than the Continentals. Some people say the Hankooks have a soft side-wall which doesn't help the 'on the edge' handling -but the trade off if better ride comfort and less noise I guess

My vrs came fitted with Pirelli p Zero Nero's, and after just under 9.5k, they've all got around 5mm left. I'm slightly surprised that the tyres have all worn at the same rate. The tyres are all at the same pressure. Am hoping to get at least 15-16k out of them. They do grip very well, although are quite noisy. Got used to it, but I guess you can't have everything from a tyre.

Did u get the vrs from New millsy? I thought the only two factory tyres were dunlops or conti. Wouldnt mind trying the Pirellis!

Mine came with pirellies and i changed them at 17000 miles at the front as they had virtualy no tread left

I also found they were rather noisy

I was under the impression Hankook had stiffer sidewall's than the Conti's. .

Have a look on tyrereviews.co.uk - a lot of people comment on the softness of the sidewall. Not noticed it to be an issue myself but will give some more feedback once got a few more miles on 'em. Definitely quieter and more comfortable tho! Definitely the "thinking man's performance tyre" haha
