vnt17 turbo fit a tdi pd100 engine?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if a garrett vnt17 turbo directly fits a tdi pd100 engine (with a vnt15 turbo).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

One from an Ibiza, Fabia or Polo will bolt straight on yes.

It wont fit straight on. Due to the slightly smaller engine bay the outlet of the turbo to the i/c is rotated through 90 degrees on the Fabia platform compared the the A3/Golf to clear the chassis leg. Its not difficult to do but may upset the balance of the turbo.

The part in red is the bit I mean, blue is where it needs to be.

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

I am negotiating a price for vnt17 brand new including inlet.

Is

Sounds like good value to me - I've been quoted a fair bit more from a local place, but that is for a racing hybrid turbo.

Hmm. So you want bigger Jets, FMIC and a hybrid. Take it you also want a clutch as well :D

J, he won't have time to do the clutch as it will be on it roof after a few days :D

:P Clutch AND big brakes too, will be necessary.....

I take it the fitting of the vnt17 on the fabia vrs doesn't require mods bacause of different chassis leg?

The fitment will be the same for any Fabia, the vRS is no different. The problem is that turbo is not for a Fabia/Ibiza/Polo, its for a Golf/A3/Octavia/Leon etc.

Like I say its not a massive problem but one to be mindfull of.

Hi

Thanks again for your advice.

Do I understand correctly that both garrett and kkk supplied turbos for pd130 engine?

I have some pics of the kkk turbo and would appreciate your thoughts?

Problem is I am struggling to attach them to this email

Cheers

John

Yes they do, both are identical in fitment. Garret turbos have the problem of sticking up but I believe KKK's dont.

The parts lists show KKK turbos for the Fabia 130PD and Garrett for the same engine in the Octavia. The part numbers are also slightly different.

:P Clutch AND big brakes too, will be necessary.....

....as are the roof rack and castors. ;):D

Can I check the part numbers with you are correct:

Nr. 038 253 016 N

0178/5560160

Is one or both of these numbers significant?

Cheers

John

:bump:

for Lummox

The 038 number is the part number.

I dont have ETKA to check it out though, is that the one of the ebay turbo?

Wouldn't it be best to try and source a turbo from a PD160 cupra instead of one from a PD130. PD160 can handle more boost.

The pd130 turbo can provide enough boost for at least 195 bhp, 350-400 lb ft which is more than I need.

The PD160 has the PD150 turbo garrett vnt 17 GT1749VB and compared with the pd130 it takes longer to spool up.

Cheers

John

Personally I'd get advise on a turbo upgrade from one of the specialist-tuners, if you're gonna spend that kinda cash you may want to get a hybrid to get the quicker spoolup AND the boost-capability of a bigger turbo.

Oversizing your turbo will allow for very high boost but you'll spend 0.3-0.5 seconds waiting for it to spool up in the first place, which may negate any improvements
