Advice on a Bike rack

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Next week we are taking the Superb on a road trip to the Belgium Spa GP, we are staying 13km away from the track and thought it would be better to cycle then spend 3 hours trying to get out of the track in the car.

Can anyone recommend a good bike rack for 2 bikes, I want a rear mounted one. I have already looked on-line, preferably I'm after one that doesn't block the lights or number plate.

Thanks,

Stuart

i would think that most racks don't blockout the lights, butit is the bikes themselves Saw someone pulled over on the M6 with bikes on the back and no lighting board I think it is very dangerous for following drivers to carry bikes like that

If you have a tow bar I can recommend the Thule Hang On variety - they come is a range of sizes but would result in the need for a trailer board etc., as would any rear mounted carrier. Otherwise I think you are restricted to roof mount options which could be an issue on the ferries across the Channel (one of the reasons I opted for tow ball mount).

How many in the car...if only 2 why not put the back seats down, take the wheels off the bikes and put them in the back...saves you the cost of a rack of any description...aerodynamically economic...safe and secure...if you've got quick release wheels you won't even need a spanner.

Hope the weather is kind to you...I'll be in front of the telly!
