honest opinions...S4 or VRs?

Can you afford a 3.0T S4? If so get one.

I got 44.1mpg on a motorway trip the other day. Granted it was at 60. Better than I got from my VRS!

John,

You're in the wrong thread, this isn't your thread

:D

Obviously the S4 is the one to get but it may not be the most sensible.

I'm seriously considering an S4 as a replacement for the Octy next year, it really appears to tick all the boxes with that new engine

probably too big but have you considered a Phaeton? The used prices are an absolute steal. 3litre V6 TDI should be fairly economical for that size car, remap and what a sleeper and a budget Bentley ;)

I really do love the octy though and im just thinking if i live with the S4 as a weekend "toy" will i regret the all day practicality and performance of the octy?

How is an Audi A4 Avant not practical? The beauty of the S4 is that it's got the all the snarl and spit that it should have with a V8, but it will also take care of all the 5hitty day to day stuff as well, albeit with a slightly less forgiving ride than the Octy.

Just imagine opening it up on the motorway…

I would definitely be able to live with an S4 day to day, and I've got two little ones already :)

odd comment. The S4 is as practical and has more performance.

The OP clearly said in post one he is looking at the 2003-2005 S4 with the 4.2 V8 engine.

It's much more thirsty than the new 3.0, so less sensible as a daily drive.

But economy on a daily is all dependant on the mileage anyway... 5,000 miles in an S4, would cost less than 20,000 miles in a 2.0 TDI

As the OP or anyone else that has been to Inverness knows you are 120 miles from any Motorway,

& then they are not Motorways in the real sense.

The A9 North or South is a road you can pick up 3 speeding tickets on in 1 day and lose your licence.

The other roads East & West were and are still great, but a S4 is reall a wasted car these days if living in Inverness.

One of the very best driving road in Scotland (No.1 when joined up and over the Lecht) would be fun in a S4, but its not really necessary to have one, any vehicle will do, smaller can be better..(watch your windscreen for stones & for unmarked's)

***This is not me & not my video, my favourite road tho.****

A Q car is a far better option really.(not bright colours or Bright metallic blues etc)

Still can get done big style tho what ever you drive/ride..

Get the S4 converted to LPG. Sorted. All the performance, all the noise and decent running costs. Cake and eating it.

what i meant by this was the fact i can jump into the octy fire it up and not be "irritated" by the sound or the ride harshness etc.

Mileage wise i do around 5-7k a year and as someone pointed out my nearest actual motorway is over 180miles from my front door, mileage is mainly country driving with the odd long run (the octy took me and 3 mates down to Brands hatch for the DTM and if it stays itll take us to croft for BTCC next year)

Irritated by the noise of the V8?????????????? Please tell me i have mis understood your post??

New babies do so love being driven in a V8.

& if you want, instead of just rocking the craddle or pushing the pram,

you can just climb in the car and sit and enjoy,

you do not even need to go for a drive during teething, non sleep nights etc etc. Just fire it up.

Best get the S4, now that i think a bit deeper.

Have fun.
