Any Runners On Here

I started running at Christmas, rapidly approaching my mid 50's and never really ran before. Did a 5k several years ago and vowed never again.

Ran 10.6 miles yesterday and felt awful by end of it. Now quite concerned about GNR though everyone says atmosphere on the day will get me through.

My race number is 44836 so will be near the back of the crowd

Good luck on your runs

I did the GNR in '98 (seems so long ago...), what I remember was the start was so slow... they had markers on the start as an indication of what time you intend to finish, so you gauge where to start the race, been an honest guy, I went to the 1hr 30m marker... seeing all the fancy dress costumes, not so fit looking peeps around (no offense intended) realised no one was taking any notice of the guide times!!!!

One of the hardest parts I think was the 2 mile walk back to my flat after the finish.. :)

I have not done any running now for nearly 8 years, I really know I should, I would love to do the GNR again...

Yes, I am.

Run to work most days, run with my club 2 (or 3) times a week

Do the odd 10K (PB not very good @ 42:38)

Like fell-racing, but a knee injury in January (gained at a cross-country) laid me low for a while, so the fell-races are only just cming back into my sights (pre injury, I was running roughly 170-180 miles a month)

<p>My number for the GNR is 35774, hoping to complete in around 2hrs. Would love to have a go at fell running sometime as I already take part in hill walking events. I wish you luck Superbfan its my 1st half marathon for over 25 yrs so will be interesting, I've also heard that the crowds are fantastic and really help you along the way. I certainly won't be walking home after the finish.:)

Fell-racing in Norfolk!?!?

Try these sites for race information

My avatar pic was taken at this race in 2010 (DNF'd in 2011, due to a substantial branch in the face, & scratching a Cornea)

I ran this, as my first 'half', a few years ago ('09) & did it in 1.42:52

if I'd run this years event, & could have equalled it, I'd have finished 11th/563!!!!! (there was a strong head wind though, all the way apparantly. I only had one for the last 5 mile)

Yeh I know, Norfolk isn't ideal for fell running!! I have taken part in The Four Inns walk every year for the last 14yrs or so in the Peak District and we have got our time down to 11hrs 18mins over the last few years without running. The fell runners complete in just over 6hrs, so I aim to run some of it next year and see what difference it makes to our time. The Crossbay Run looks interesting, hard work I bet!

Yes it is, as there's still the rivers entering the Bay whether the tiide's in or out.

The big crossing (Kent Channel) can be 200 yards wide & getting on for crotch-deep, if a lot of rain has fallein in Cumbria

I'm in and out of running. Trying to get back into it. Did a half marathon in March @ 1:51. Not too shabby for a novice, I guess. If anyone's in the Walington/Sutton area, message me. Have always preferred running with others but no one will go out with me!

'Ditto' around the eastern/south-eastern side of Wakefield, we're always after potential new members (presently circa 120)
