Wanting to improve my cars look

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

So I own a silver fabia VRs mk1 and im debating put spyders on it, problem I not sure how it would look lowered, due to a family members back conditions slight bumps in the road can hurt them. So i was wondering can anyone show me what a VRS with 17inch spyders looks like at standard ride height?

Secondly im very low on funds, so all in i was wondering how much you would estimate a set of spyders, refurbed and changed to Anthracite and also brand new tires all around( not top of the line, £60 a corner say)?

Any help is appreciated,

Cheers :)

I'd say 100-150 for the wheels if they need a refurb. Mint ones would be closer

to 300-400. Allow say 50 per wheel for refurb and a further £60 each for some rubber

(Falken ZE912s are in budget at around £55 each) so all in you'd be looking at between

£540 to £590 ish.

You will need tyres with a lower profile sidewall to keep the rolling radius right and even

if you leave the suspension standard, ride quality will suffer to some extent with the thinner tyres.

BUT... It won't look right on standard suspension on 17's and the wheels will look aftermarket as a result.

Even though they are not. Personally I decided to save a bunch of cash and refurb the standard 16's.

The octy vrs estate has 16" spiders as standard, if its the style of the wheels you like not the size.

Yeah see i though the standard height would ruin the look of them, Ive seen coilovers for £200 but im not sure if they will affect the cars ride, i dont want to cause discomfort to my family member.

What is your tire size?

On the practicalities, if you lower a car and don't increase the spring rates and/or uprate the ARBs, you will reduce the roll stiffness, which will give you handling and/or roadholding issues. You will also increase the front camber and castor angles which may increase inside edge wear, kick-back and tramlining. It may also affect bump steer (but depending on standard geometry, this could actually be reduced).

As for the 17s on stock ride height, I actually like the appearance.

If you're keen to upgrade to 17" wheels or want to change to 16" and lower, then you could always use something like a Eibach Pro-kit springs, which would improve the look.

To do the whole thing to improve the look and handling, then you should probably do the dampers too.

If you're after a whole suspension upgrade a Bilstein B12 kit, which combines the Pro-Kit springs with the correct B8 dampers.

If you want to go really low, then coilovers might be an option, but there is usually a trade off with these.

Give my car a great make-over, polish & valet, and I'll tell you how great your car looks just as it is. LOL
