On the other hand, in my previous job I had a Picasso 2.0HDI SX from brand new. Over two years I did 65K miles without a hitch, apart from a minor problem with the digital dash, which was the subject of a recall.

I treated the car like dirt, thrashed the living hell out of it and still it came back for more. Did eat tyres though.

And my dad's Citroen ZX did 150K in ten years before we got rid of it... In that time it just had servicing, but survived two major accidents, had petrol put in it and was thrashed daily. It was a workhorse from Day 1, and god knows how many tons of building equipment and materials it carried. In all the time we owned it, it never had a clutch, never had any major mechanical work done, sailed through every MOT... and at 137K miles had its first silencer!!!

So they're not all bad.

That said, however, Renaults do suck particularly badly. :thumbdwn:

can't he return it?

I'm trying to convince him to get a Octy 2, even loaded up a nice fully loaded quote on his computer with a 2.0 TDi. Came out cheaper than his Laguna, but he won't have any of it.

Hmm, he doesn't like Skoda's yet who's car is going to get to and from work tomorrow?

I remember being ferried about in a Citroen BX when i was a youth. My mother must have bought one for some reason....

Well, I had a 1.9i ZX which went like ****e off a shovel, and a 1.9 TD too which was also OK - quite reliable with reasonable poke. I think the problem has been that MODERN French cars have gone downhill massively, but the old skool ones are still mostly doing OK (lots of old'ish AXs and clios etc about)

I wouldn't touch a French car now less than 5 years old. But give me an old skool 205 GTI or AX GT, maybe even a BX, then I'll be happy.

C3 or C2? :finger: Bite me! :D

I've had a Renault 21 - 1.7 90bhp engine. Only problem with that car was the heater matrix going, which was fixed wrongly by the local dealer (later I found they had a bad reputation, I wonder why GRRR). Superb car for the rest. No faults.

Citroen ZX 1.4i. Did 166k miles before a faulty earth lead took out the ECU eventually. Trashed it to bits but no faults beyond that.

Peugeot 205, two thereof, 1.2s (petrol) - small electrical faults (switching gear). Trashed hard, no further problems either. Not bad ;)

Fiesta 1.1 - numerous faults, starter motor failure, sensitive to rain (ie causing misfires). Suspension failure on the back at some point, it just went... Not too bad though considering ;) - not a French car but included for good measure ;)

I guess I've been lucky :D

My old AX was okay, pretty pokey for a little 1l... In the 2 years I had it (which involved a year of just sitting on the drive way, and at least 6 months driving with little to no oil) i didnt have to have any work done on it.

Strange really, I was trying to kill the thing so I'd have an excuse to buy an Octy it just wouldnt die though.

ps if anyone wants it I live in poll eand am looking for around

Ah French cars dont get me started............well it's too late for that.

I've owned a total of 6 peugeot cars which are as follows with problems

1997R Pug 106 - Lovely car no problems and had that for 18 month before upgrading to

1999S Pug 306 - Even better car why oh why did I get rid of it, oh I remember some pratt smashed the rear of it up!

2000W Citroen Saxo VTS - Great car erm why it worked! Gearbox problems paint problems trim problems hell lots of problems so I changed it for another saxo VTS

2001Y ****reon Paxo - God da*n it this was just as bad why did I bother!! Sold after a year.

1995M Pug 306 sedan good car quick but abit juicy on the go go juice oh and the only car I made any money on lol

2003 LR03DNE Pug 206 2.0HDi LX My god it was dire!!! New fuel system, new dash display, new this new that! It was in the garage basically every month  though when it did work it was a nice car which clocked up 24k in just over a year, oh and that was the car I got my ban in.

So french cars (the older ones) are good cars it just these new ones that are total dog turd!

At last I've come to my senses and bought a real car :D

Plus you seem to have done a little tweaking to it Mike ;) heeeheee :D

I dont know what you are talking about ;)

Think you and Jason are right about that. Spoke to my brother-in-law today, and his 4-year-old Laguna just failed its MOT on five counts, needing 700 euros in repairs to set things straight.

And that's excluding the starter card reader working on and off, the aircon having stopped working and the dampers needing new bump stops all round...

In these four years he's had close to 30 additional garage visits.

I've heard from a guy working at a car lease firm that the latest crop of French cars seem to built for 90k kms max - before, the maintenance bills are already quite high for some but after that the cars just disintegrate! It's only their relatively high (but as he said, undeserved) residuals that are keeping lease prices at a reasonable level. Which is only propagating the problem as those prices will only keep on attracting new customers...
