RS4

Featured Replies

Went for a run in an 06 plate RS4 yesterday and got to say foook me, how quick?!

Have driven my brothers C63 on numerous occasions and although its seriously quick and the sound is intoxicating I find it's hard to get the power onto the Tarmac because of rear wheel drive.

Greasy or wet road and the wheels just spin....

RS4 on ther other hand just grips and go's!!

C63 an auto, RS4 Manuel so this probably helps when giving it some.

Anyway my point is £17000 RS4 06 plate with 20,000 miles on OR brand new C63 at £50,000?

For me?

RS4 all day long!!

Yes, they are pretty quick.

Almost sensible too in the Avant, which would be my choice.

It will be interesting to see how good the next one is, as the new S4 has bridged a lot of the gap between the old S and RS.

My mate had an S4 briefly after a TT and although quick its not in same league as the old RS.

To improve on the "old" RS4 it's gonna have to be seriously special.

I don't think they can improve on sheer speed, so only it'll probably have more finesse which may ruin its appeal.

As I said the new S4 is better than the old one and does get some way towards the old RS4.

I did a test drive in a TT-RS and that was quick. A bit boring and it understeered, but it was quick.

I know with a remap alone a TTRS will go to 400bhp and hit 60mph in under 4 seconds.

I actually had an order in for one before I popped into a Nissan garage on the way home. :notme:

And yes, they can improve the sheer speed.

He had the new S4.

It was nice and looked the bizz, but it was a bit more restrained than the old RS4.

As improving on sheer speed, I think we are running out of seconds from 0 to 60!!

What's the My12 GTR at now, 2.8 to 60?

How faster can we get to sixty without your eyes going through the back of your head!?

Yes around that.

Can't get mine under 3.1 though (MY11 with 600bhp and MY12 software), so I think that's optimal conditions. You probably won't get that in real life very often.

There is always room for improvement, although I have noticed the big power GT-Rs don't take much off the 0-60mph due to traction issues, it's the 0-100 and 30-130 that start to come down quite a bit.

I'd like to see the next RS4 have a stock 0-60 under 4 seconds. I think the old was was about 4.4(ish) from memory.

What does the supercharger sound like, have you heard it? I've yet to sample a new one.

The RS4 isn't that fast is it? Unless we are talking about the first RS4 with mods.

TTRS is very rapid with a remap but still an Audi TT as we have told a particular person on our Lotus forum about a million times!

I expect a GTR with 600bhp would be interesting. But, it's still a heavy car with too many driver aids.

Makes my Cee'd's 10 secs sound slow...and even an M5 with a V10..

Yeah I know of him. Smaller wheels, a remap and a geometry tweak and it's a supercar. :giggle: Posted a bit on that forum to find out about Exiges. How expensive is your watch by the way?

Not as expensive as my hifi!

As a member of RS246 forum I have spoken to numerous guys and the general consensus is that the B8 S4 is as quick to 60 as the RS4 due to the torque profile, the fact that the S4 is about 350-360bhp and the RS4 is about 380bhp on a dyno. Plus the RS4 is older and the facelift S4 is quicker than the non facelift S4. The fact the S4 has the 7 speed S-tronic with launch control (which is truely incredible) also adds to the fact that in reality the 0-60s are the pretty similar.

However, at higher speeds the RS4 doesn't run out of puff like the S4 and will pull away. It will also nail the S4 handling wise unless the rear differential and ADS are added as options. The gap has been massively reduced.

The new B8 RS4 just launched is actually not hugely quicker than the B7 RS4 and hence a lot of current owners aren't ordering due to the huge cost for minor performance increases. The performance increase is also partly down to the S-tronic.

In a test last year the B8 RS5 barely pulled away from the B8 S4, which the RS5 got hammered for amongst many other things.

The new RS4 is a direct competitor to the C63 avant and Chris Harris on drive demonstrated that the C63 actually gets its traction down ok even in the wet. It's a good video so do a google and have a watch. Both are around £60k with some spec added.

An interesting read below. Not an RS4 but an RS5 and performance wise slightly better than the B7 RS4.

To answer a post above, you can barely hear the supercharger as the new exhaust and V6 drowns it out. You can occasionally hear it when at lower RPM accelerating gently but not really a lot.

I think I've just waffled a lot here anyway. Apologies.

Chris Harris may be able to keep the power down on a C63 but us mere mortals who don't spend all day every day driving these sort of exotica would struggle, and that's from someone with C63 driving experience on normal British roads.

Valid point.

Both are awesome cars i will go for the RS4 because of the Quattro 4wd system
