This is a (German) report by my motoring journalist friend Jo Clahsen about the 3-day Sachsen Classic which took place on August 16, 17 and 18 running around Saxony from Zwickau via Leipzig to Dresden and covering 600k.

In Group 3 (aka 'Post-War), Jo drove a Skoda Tudor about which he enthused considerably, especially given the 'roof-down weather' and classic 'belt and braces' driving experience.

He writes of how a Skoda Popular Monte Carlo almost stole his thunder and ruminates upon just how much muscle power you need to bring 32 hp of 1.1 litre classic to a standstill without e-brakes or similar luxuries.

Dr. Eckhard Scholz, ex Skoda Design Director who took over as Chairman of Volkswagen Utility Vehicles on September 1 also took part in a Skoda Felicia Cabrio. His comments: "I drove the Felicia with great enthusiasm. It was unbelievable to what extent crowds at the roadside along the route and through the villages applauded, how much enthusiasm was let loose and how we enjoyed peoples' delight at our great 'old-timer'. It is not for nothing that the Skoda Felicia is seen as a design icon .
