Control system for exhaust light on!

Hello

Had this light come on this morning and read the manual and it states:

The warning light ? comes on after the ignition has been switched on.

If the warning light does not go out after starting the engine or it lights up when

driving, a fault exists in an exhaust relevant component. The engine management

system selects an emergency programme which enables you to drive to the nearest

specialist garage by adopting a gentle style of driving.

Anyone else had this, is it a common fault, or shall i take it to the mechanic straight away. The car seems perfectly normal and no problems with lag or limp mode.

Thanks

Lee

Are you able to drive it now and if so try to keep the engine revs up above 3000 for at least 20 minutes, say on a motorway as I believe your exhaust filter is becoming block from lots of short low speed journeys.

I might be wrong but it is likely.

OK will try it, but done a lot of motorway driving over thr weekend so up around 2500rpm so not sure this is the issue - could be a faulty sensor, as i have read other issues similar to this on this forum, just wondered if i'm correct in thinking this.

thanks

So a warning light comes on, with instructions to use the engine carefully, and get assistance as soon as possible (nearest garage), and someone advises to drive on the motorway at over 3000 rpm for 20 minutes. Don't you think it might be better to at least call the dealer?

Exactly the same fault occurred with my 2009 TDi CR170 DSG on the Friday before the August Bank Holiday. Took it into local dealer because I was planning a long drive and they found three fault codes: P0471 Exhaust Pressure Sensor; P068A Main relay opens too early sporadic and P2453 Diesel Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance.

They cleared the lot after printing out the whole history since 2009 and gave me a copy. No charge!

Light came on again after about 400 miles. I then did another 300 miles and borrowed a fault code reader. This showed one fault P0471 again. I cleared this.

Light came on again fairly soon afterwards, but I drove home completing 1400 miles since leaving the dealer.

I ordered a fault code reader and used this immediately I got home, showing two faults P0471 and P2453 again. Cleared both and currently warning light is off.

The car is driving fine, mainly motorway driving @ 70+ during the trip.

My research suggests both of these codes are likely to be generated by faulty sensors. Common problem across the VW group cars.

I need to get the DSG gearbox oil changed so will probably get the Skoda dealer to change the sensors.

Hope this helps

Cheers for this info - think i'll get my mechanic to have a look at it - he has a code reader so might be able to see if sensor needs changing.

As i said , seems a very common fault, so not too worried as car is working perfectly normally.

Had exactly the same the other day, the morning after sitting in a long jam for hours with the aircon on. Auxiliary coolant pump buggered according to the stealer - that was the only code that was evident

Performance / Economy not affected over the 500 miles driven with the light on
