Greenline 1.9 update after 55k mileage

Featured Replies

I am now 19 months/ 55000 miles into my contract hire vehicle - a Superb Greenline 1.9 and what a totally brilliant car.

I thought I would just share my thoughts for anyone who is not yet a convert -

Will just be going in for 3rd variable service in a few days time. No problems at all, just a mega comfy, big cruiser that has wafted up and down the motorway nearly everyday without even the slightest hint of a problem.

I thought the easy 70 to 75mpg recorded average on the computer was exceptional - but have several times seen a whopping 80/82 MPG !!!!!!!! Incredible. OK I know the computer may be slightly optimistic but this car is a true great as a frugal motorway workhorse.

Tyre use - just recently replaced front oe Continentals at 52000 miles (!) and to my disbelief the rears look like they are going to see out my lease to 70000 miles. I am going to take some credit for my mostly leisurely driving style and the motorway is an easy life for tyres but I think that is pretty economical motoring.

What's not so good ? - well from certain angles the car is STILL no beauty (but then I am not looking at it when cruising around getting silly mpg so it's not too much of a problem.....!) The only other thing, is in some situations the measly 105 bhp can be felt (normally when the traffic slows and you find yourself stirring the gears to get some acceleration rather than just booting it in top gear like everyone else with rather more power) - but it's only occasionally as mentioned. In most circumstances (ie when held at 70mph on cruise) the power is just perfectly ok.

Not much of a big decision - this car goes back to lease company in January and I am definately having another one. This time I may splash out a bit and treat myself to a 170 SE model - probably still going to be economical for me personally but will be nice to have some extra wallop under the foot for when I am in the mood (maybe even the excellent DSG version !?)

Thanks for reading and hope it helps someone. These really are terrific motors ! Don't think VW/ Audi will be seeing me again anytime soon...........

I am almost half way through my three year lease and will need to think about replacement this time next year - at the moment I can't think of anything I would like to replace with except another Superb

Mix of space, comfort, reliability and economy means nothing else comes close, and as mentioned by OP you don't have to look at it when you drive it

Go for it...get a 170 DSG. It can be as liesurely or as spirited as you want.
