Battery losing charge as it turns cold

Featured Replies

Hi -I own skoda Fabia VRS 2005. I had a new battery fitted late last year as recommended by mechanic. Then in FEB/MAR it started going flat overnight during cold spell. The problem cleared itself when the weather got warmer and has been fine during the summer, however a cold spell last week caused a stutter in the turnover of the engine.

I am fearfull it will happen when it turns cold for the winter. I had read a blog regarding this symptom -

"Your problem will be the alternator sense wire where it goes to a socket on the gearbox. The wire breaks and the alternator does not charge the battery. The socket in question is just below the battery tray."

I am wondering if rather than being broken it is a dodgy connection aafected by cold weather [i.e the cold causing a high reistance and bad junction]

I would apprecaite any input.

Regards BAZ
