car jumping all over the place

Featured Replies

Hi all, can anyone help.

My wife just brought acorsa1.2 auto, in first gear the car judders like mad when starting off, mainly on hills or slopes, orif carrying any weight. Is almost like doing a wheel spin the way it does it. It

Did have 16 inch alloy wheels which i think were to big so i have put 14s on them but it still does It.

Any ideas please

Dan

I'm presuming it's a torque convertor auto:-

0) If it's under manufacturer warranty, make V@*xh@11 sort it out. Do not be fobbed off with "they all do that sir", because that's almost certainly a lie.

1) Check the transmission fluid level.

2) If (1) is ok, then if it's done over 50k miles, have the gear oil changed. ZF Transmissions recomend doing this, and I think it's fair to say that they know a bit about auto boxes.

3) If it's still not sorted, I'm left suspecting brake bands, which is a major overhaul job.

Is it a Used Corsa, how old or is this some newer car?

Different thing, but

I had a 1.4 Corsa Auto that needed Super Unleaded or it would not run properly,

(Knock Sensor put it in to limp mode)

& Fluid leaked from the Gearbox when new.

otherwise it was a good one.

The 1.2 Corsas i have driven were not very good compared to most other small Autos.

What should the standard size tyres be?

It might well be wheel spin, they are nippy on the flat in starting off when on the correct size tyres.

If the car drives well and properly when not loaded & with a careful throttle, then do the same on hill starts maybe.

Have it checked out tho when running on the correct size tyres.

(ie you have on the same Rolling Radius to the standard fitment)

Thanks, my bad for not saying. It's a 52 plate, done 90k and is a semi auto. Has the up and down gear shift thing as well as the auto gear box. Its definitely not wheel spinning but i will check out the other options you have both mentioned. I think it is now on the correct 14 inch wheels that it would have came with. It was doing this problem when they brought it and the guy who owned it was a mechanic and didn't know what was wrong i know what you're thinking, why buy it then, that's what i keep thinking.why did they buy the bloody thing!

Thanks again

My (1) and (2) still apply. Is it a "clutchless" manual or a Tiptronic (torque convertor auto with sequential control)? With a Tiptronic, I'm afraid (3) also still applies and with a clutchless it may actually be inherant (particularly given the age).

I might have bought it as well

, but then i have one of the best Automatic Gearbox specialists just down the road,

i would have him drive it and tell me the 'worst' it might cost.

Maybe forget a Vauxhall Mechanics,

,any Autobox Specialists near you that can give a test run?

I'll try one and two first so i don't look an idiot, and if that doesn't work I'll sniff out a specialist,

Thanks for your help. Hopefully i can find a solution to this

Dan

sounds like the gearbox to me autos normally suffer from this issue could be flywheel etc
