towbar on late 2010 estate

Featured Replies

I'm looking to get a towbar fitted - detachable, as have liked not cracking shin on one for last two years. At last service Skoda said they'd check the price - would be about £400 - then when I collected the car there was a note in the invoice to say would be £840. And they get a roving towbar fitter in to do it anyway.

Now it seems like the modern canbus wiring is expensive, but really you have to go through with a dedicated kit if you don't like bodging things. A nice Witter detachable flange towbar goes for about £170, but the wiring kit is about same again. Then it's a fair old job to fit it all, and you need to recode the car for it work, apparantly. So all in price about £600 with VAT and fitting at my house, from Automative Control Ltd (Bristol) actually doesn't seem unreasonable. Or am I missing a trick? And has anyone else used this company?

Best alternative: I could just buy the kit, and spend a day with the car in bits hoping not ot break any interenal trim - anyone recommend that?

Detachable Westfalia ones are a shade over £100 (towequipe) if you don't mind doing it yourself? No ideas on the wiring though, sorry. I hear talk about needing to disable parking sensors if fitted.

I'm just miffed they're all "excluding vRS"...
