Bumper Removal MY12 vRS

Featured Replies

Hey, there!!

I've recently purchased an LED light bar for my Octy vRS, (https://4wdchip.infusionsoft.com/app/storeFront/showProductDetail?productId=322# and want to install it behind the lower grille, attached to the metal bumper brace.

I can't find any guides to help with removing the front bumper. The only ones I can find are quite vague, and are only for the Pre-FL... So not really useful to me.

I was kinda hoping that someone on here could help me out!!

Cheers,

-Matt

This might be a dumb ass question but what's the purpose of it?

@Jonno vRS- Better high beam. I think you call them "Main beam" in the UK. Well, anyways. Night time visibility.

Here in Australia, we have wild Kangaroo's and Wombats. They especially like to chillax in the middle of the road, at night.

I've hit two animals total, in my Octy... A soccer ball-sized bird in the middle of the windscreen, at 2am doing 110km/h; and a 5ft tall Kangaroo, at 1am doing 80km/h.

The only damage from both incidents combined was some blood on the wheel from the Roo.

These Skoda's are built tough!

Cheers, Harry!! :)

Makes sense then. I fancy one that flashes blue and red so people get out of my way.

You wouldn't be the first to do so, and I'm not implying that's me either. There are various Mk1 vRS's with them installed.

For show purposes obviously!

I think removing the bumper is actually quite straight forward.

There are some bolts underneath at the front and some more behind the wheelarch liners.

Just remember to put a blanket down so that when it drops you don't scratch it on the ground.

Remember to disconnect the front fogs and LED DRL's before carrying it back to the garage!

Had a go today.

Removing the bumper was amazingly easy.

The horrible part was trying to drill through the metal bumper.

The two 6mm pilot holes were fine, but 1x 10mm and 2x 12mm drill bits later and the hole wasn't that much bigger.

Is there some kind of reinforced mesh inside the metal, or something?...

I used both a handheld drill and a 2,100rpm 240v.

One 12mm drill bit was brand new. I bought it after the first one did nothing, thinking it was blunt.

Very strange!
