Skoda Fabia Comfort 1.4 16v Engine Oil Consumption?

Featured Replies

Pretty new to the forums and decided to sign up to ask about my Skoda Fabia Comfort 1.4 16v engine oil consumption.

I bought my Fabia around two weeks ago and after driving it home (forty minute drive), I parked up on my driveway and the red engine oil light came up. I immediately turned off my engine and left the car to cool off whilst I went out to buy some engine oil. I rolled the car down to level ground and checked the oil and to no suprise, there was around 2mm on the dipstick. I filled it up to just under max and thought nothing of it. However, I checked the oil today and to my suprise, it was just below minimum.

From what I've researched from Google and so forth it's a common problem with the 1.4 16v engine, I was wondering if there's anyway to decrease oil consumption or any kind of fix to this problem?

Any help would be grateful.

Its a common issue on these engines (AUA/AUB) its a sign (i believe) of the piston rings going. I read that this is caused by using 95 octane fuel, instead of the 98 stuff, it leads to carbon build up thus destroying the Piston Rings. An easy way to tell if they have gone is to have a compression test done on each cylinder. Otherwise unless you want to spend out big cash to get it fixed, use 98 octane, and regularly check your oil. My old 16v was using about 1 litre every 700-800 miles

Thanks for the reply.

Would using 98 octane fuel clear out some of the carbon build up or would that be a manual job? Also, will the oil consumption ever decrease, or will it stop at around 1L/700-800Mile?

im not entirely sure. The problem is that excessive carbon causes wear on the rings, so i guess once its worn them its worn them, but it could be that oil consumption could level out and not get any worse if you now switched to 98 octane. At the end of the day if they are worn they are worn and would need replacing, i believe there was a case where some one was going through 1 litre ever 400-500 miles. But best thing to do is to get a compression test to confirm if they are knackered!

And how much would it cost to have them replaced? Mine's using a fair amount of oil too :( I can live with a couple of extra quid a tank for 98 petrol though

Try to clean the crankcase breather of white mayo, your oil consumption might drop. Also you could try after an italian tune and maybe some Comma Petrol D-Tox.

I got same car my oil consumption is fine, but wen I first ad it the consumption was bad. I've done a few steps to reduce it my fabia was running on 10 40w semi so I changed to 5 30w fully synthetic, cleared breathers and run 98 octane fuel and oil consumption is nice. May be u need do this aswell
