1st Skoda Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I started my new job this week, and have decided to get myself my 1st car.

From what I've heard Skodas are pretty solid and not bad value for money - but I need some help!

I've had a test drive in a 1.4l Fabia, it's done 50,000 miles approx, is a 2000 reg car and has had 1 previous owner.

It drove fine, we took it round residential streets and onto the motorway for about half an hour in total. Just wondering if anyone has had any major problems with a similar car around the similar mileage. I was unsure whether to go for the warranty on the car as it costs £400, and the car being only £1600.

Any advice would be great and would help me loads as I don't know much about cars!

a lot of money for a 12 yr old car regardless of mileage or condition - depends how badly you need one

best advice I can give is get your local friendly mechanic to have a look

Hi, we've had our 1.4 Fabia (02 plate) for just over 3 years and all in all she's served us very well. 45k on the clock when purchased and we've covered around 40k ish since. A few issues encountered along the way, temp sensor, fan resistor, slightly noisy anti roll bar bushes, but all are common problems and by no means excessively expensive to rectify. A low mileage genuine Fabia could fetch around that value but I'd advise caution in taking on any additional warranties (they're often not what they appear when and if you need to use them). Have a look within the Mk 1 Fabia section of the forum as there's some really useful pinned and other threads. Taking an experienced guy along to give it the once over is always really valuable if you can. If you pick up a good one you won't regret it. Good luck.
