"Error: stabilisation control (ESC)" - is this a problem?

Overtaking a cyclist on a hill (as I'd been behind him was moving quite slowly) I pressed the accelerator - there was a bong sound and this flashed up on the MaxiDot. "Error: stabilisation control (ESC)"

The car then went into 'limp mode' with ESC light on (it's a 1.2TSI DSG) and wouldn't go above 2000rpm.

Managed to pull over (luckily there was a lay by) ignoring the 'what the hell is this idiot doing???' looks from the cyclist and then rebooted the car - and it went away.

Anyone else had this?

Must say the DSG does sound a bit like a bag of spanners - but apart from this and the above the car seems to go perfectly.
