Fabia Comfort 1.4 16v - no ABS/ESR/Engine check lights

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I will apologise in advance for any errors in protocol as I am fifty something (hence Fogey1kenobi) and new to posting etc.

I recently acquired a Skoda fabia 1.4 comfort 16v (W reg) . There are a number of faults present, mainly wear and tear, but there is a 'fault' that I am unable to understand. When the ignition is turned on there is no ABS/ESR/Engine light. I have had the vehicle checked by a Skoda dealership and all they coul tell me about the 'fault' was that it was probably a defective instrument cluster, or pod. I asked if it was conceivable that someone had accessed the controller and 'turned off' the warning lights and was told that it just showed up as a fault. I have replaced a defective (cracked) 40A fuse in the battery cover thus restoring ABS function ( tested by jamming on the brakes in a gravelly lane). Obviously, I need to rectify the problem before I put the car in for MOT testing.

I should add that I have a VAG-KKL (?) cable and VAG-COM 409.1 software (shareware version) but as i am not familiar with its use I am not sure a)what I am looking at and b)what I can and can't do with it. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
