dodgy sump!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

im off on holiday in a couple of weeks, so decided to do an oil change before the long drive. great idea.BUT..

It would appear that the previous owner of the car has made a total hash of previous changes as the car leaks from the plug & on further inspection, the plug has been tapped a couple of times already. I took the plug to the main dealer who advised that the plug was no way a standard issue fabia one lol.

I think I might get a new sump on her as the thread is obviously noshed. Has anyone had it done at a main dealer to know how much I am looking at to get this done??

many thanks

New sump is about £60 plus labour (about an hour). They do come up on eBay for about £30 if you look about and are not difficult to do. Mine had a new sump when the belts were done (before I bought it) - and my local VAG man keeps any he takes off and helicoils them for future recycling as it is a pretty common thing for the threads to strip!

Annoying thing for you now is you have to get the car to him... Which could mean a waste of £30 worth of oil and your time and effort!
