vrs headlight wet sanded

Featured Replies

wifes VRS headlight had suffered the normal issue of going opaques ans discoloured

had read on here about wet sanding with wet and dry etc and was sceptical, but £10 for wet and dr and rubbing compound copmpared to £100+ for a new headlight from skoda thought what the hell, lets have a go

started with 240 grade then 600, 800, 1200, 1500 and finished with 2500 then used the rubbing compound and T-Cut then finally autoglym polish

the result was impressive to say the least, headlight is now clear, no longer discoloured just very slightly milky which is either on the inside or in the main lense

took about 90 minutes but saved a shed load of money in exchange for a fair bit of elbow grease

Done the same thing. Well impressed with mine.

I just run over mine with my compounding pad and some P1 polish, brought them up like new again.

Did my Polo ones a while back (thread on here).

Need to do the BMW ones soon really as they're a bit faded. The lens just clips on/off, so can do the inside too! :)

T-cut is far from industry standard by the way, its just crap they flog to punters in the car factors. Sniff it and you will see what I mean (smells more like Brasso and that's about all I'd use it for).

Its not suitable for immediate paintwork alterations either. You won't see anyone in the trade / car repair using that ****.

Better to get a decent automotive industry standard cutting fluid, like 3M.

Sorry not to detract from your good work though, its effort well spent

You can get Depo headlamps off eBay which are as good as genuine ones for £40 each delivered

Should something go wrong.

yep, seen a few threads on here saying as good as genuine, was considering that if required

i know the dealer part is about £110-£120 as got one a years or so back due to a person (use the term loosely) clipped the car and bust all the mounting points on the headlight when the car was parked up overnight, no note, nothing, just noticed the light seemed out of line

I bought two new ones for mine and was amazed how much they brightened the front end up.

They are just the standard replacements you can get the ones with black inserts as I'm sure you know.

it was what i had to hand, but used it for minor scratches for years as not to abrasive, the cutting compound from halfrauds is much more abrasive and got a few deepers scatches the t-cut hadn't touched

so from my point of view, the t-cut was a good fit as finer abrasive then the cutting compound so good next step down then final finish was the autoglym polish

also ment i had seen it all work and got the nerve to use the 1500 and 2500 grade paper to remove a few deeper scratches then polish them out with the cutting compound , tcut and polish
