Hi, first post, fabia vrs problems!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have a fabia vrs tsi I bought new last year, and it has the dreaded oil consumption issues and has since new. Had to top up the oil all the time then Arnold Clark did the oil test and confirmed it needed the piston rings replaced.

So I was told it was a 3 day job, it's been 3 weeks and is still in bits in their workshop. Iv been told that first it needed other parts, then the master tech was on a course then he was off sick. Iv Been in this morning to see what's happening and was taken to see the car with all the parts laid on sheets beside it and was told it should be ready this week.

They have given me a courtesy car since it was taken in but where do I stand? Obviously the time scale is unacceptable but I'm also worried it won't be the same car when I get it back or that it won't be fixed? Could I push for a new engine or even reject the car if im not happy the problem has been sorted?

Welcome to the forum.

You will see plenty on the High Oil Usage in the Skoda Fabia II section.

A few are trying for re-builds and not getting them yet, being panned off with Breather Modifications.

The engine should be fine after the rebuild, mine was done at 4000 miles & is good 10,000 miles later.

Talk about the timescale with 'Skoda UK' Customer Services, on Monday. (Not with AC)

You are lucky to be getting a Master Tech at AC doing it, i find it hard to believe their is such a person in their workshops.

If they do, is it really only one they have, or do they not know how to put it back together?

Needing to bring someone in to put it back together!

(thats the AC Training set up!!)

You have your Warranty & Consumer rights, but you will need to see if they resolve the problem,

then go from there.

You may have the right to reject if they can not get it properly repaired at this time.

My car used some oil untill 7,000 miles (3000 after the rebuild) & uses none now.

I bought it used, knowing it had been re-built.

Great economy when driven easy and good performance when not.

Good luck with it all.

I think I see the problem; "...car is at Arnold Shark..." ;)

More seriously, as above regarding consumer rights.

Unfortunately I think that's probably the truth. If you get the chance it might be worth the run down the A9 to Burrelton to Thomson and Potter next time, although they have also been bought over by a big company (Specialist Skoda, same as Aberdeen).

You'll need to stamp your feet to get AC to hurry up. Might be worth a call to your local trading standards.

That was my advice regarding going to 'T&P' several times to several people.

Sadly i must now say that 2 of those people have been treated badly by T&P.

One went off to a Skoda Dealership @ Bannockburn to get his new vehicle this weekend, after 'man spoke with forked tonque' in Perthshire.

T&P Dealership is now owned by 'Specialist Cars' Skoda, 'John Clark Group'

& you may as well go into their Dundee or Aberdeen Skoda Dealerships, JMO obviously..

well its been just over 3 weeks now and still havent got the car back. they are now waiting on the oil breather mod part apparently. however i went in last saturday and was shown the car in the workshop and it was still in bits engine wise so i have no idea what they had done in the week previously, nothing by the looks of it. i have since contacted skoda uk and have a case worker who is contacting arnold clark directly and will get back to me. tbh this whole experience has made me wonder why i purchased my first ever skoda and arnold clark have been a joke. i have been fobbed off so many times with so many excuses by them including the service manager. just hope skoda uk help me out. more importantly i hope this engine will be fixed and give me no more problems. will keep this thread updated.

Hi,

there is a thread in the Fabia II section from someone that was waiting for the Breather part from Skoda,

The next person had the part fitted by Skoda, it was just got in from the VW Dealership.

Now AC have Skoda & VW, so they are at it,

unless all parts are now on Back Order.

I doubt that in Scotland it can not be there in 24 hours or more like 4 hours.

???

So is the Engine back together & ready for when the part arrives & 1 hour later ready to leave the Workshop?

Doubt it!

I would get the call from your Skoda UK handler & then straight on to Trading Standards.

Your Car should be on a Transporter Today & to a Garage of SKODA UK's choice & repaired,

or get them to start the 'Rejection' of the vehicle in motion maybe.

Just be aware>

From this forum i know of at least 3 rejected vRS's

All the best.

thanks for your info. the latest is a call from skoda uk today who have spoken to arnold clark. they basically said the same thing that the master tech who was first on the course then had "family issues" which meant he was off work and unable to work on the car. they have told me that they are still waiting on this oil breather pipe part which is holding up getting the car finished???!! no idea why they cant get this part surely this must mean in the whole of the uk skoda do not have this part available??

i am giving them to monday next week then if i still do not have the car back or if the part is still not there i will take this up with trading standards.

Ask them to take a breather pipe of another Fabia vRS.

They shouldn't have begun to strip the engine down until having all the parts ready to fit.

Good look with Arnold Clarke, I've heard some horror stories.

I think they are telling you lies, I got my car back last Wednesday and told I would get a call when the new breather part came in, Friday last week the part arrived so unless couriers don't go past Hadrians wall why can't AC get one? Ask for the part number and contact a Seat or VW dealer I bet you get one next day.

Good luck because like me the breather is the next fix offered, this is also to include a software update to make it work. I have also been told if it doesn't work the next step will be a new engine for us.

Don't mean to worry you but my car went in for a service and consumption test. They are keeping it in overnight as they need to do the breather pipe recall. The part is ordered today and will be with them tomorrow so not sure why there is a hold up?

Breather pipe recall? Do you have any further info on this as mine barely got through the consumption test at just under 500 mls per 600 miles. Consumption still pretty high but calming down a little now at almost 27000 miles.

Recall???

Yeah they said there going to do the oil consumption test which will prob have to be monitored but they are fitting a breather pipe.

<sigh> Having recently had to deal with SUK with regards to my A/C issues this seems a typical fob off excuse!

Obviously you are very sorry about the 'master techs' family issues but are they seriously suggesting there is nobody else there to rebuild the engine?!

I would not give them until Monday next week. I would be on the phone every day to both SUK and the dealer being as persistent as possible. If they give the we will ring back excuse then wait an hour or so and chase them again. Unfortunately it seems the harder you stamp your feet and moan the more SUK listen.

I found it helps to record all calls as well (make sure you make the person on the end aware your doing it, say you are recording the call just so you have a record of what's going on and what has been said). This is so that you can go back through and listen to them and make sure that SUK don't try and change goal posts so to say.

I appreciate your situation is a little different to mine in the fact you have a courtesy vehicle but you need to make it clear to them that you didn't buy a vRS to drive around in the dealers courtesy Greenline or whatever it maybe. I would be requesting another vRS to drive in the meantime by this point in all reality.

I know I may be sounding unreasonable and I know some forum members didnt agree with my complaint about the A/C problem I had but SUK got me pretty annoyed with the way they appeared to have lax customer service and the way I had to REALLY moan to get anything sorted. This plus the fact I have spent the last few hours messing around with my broken down vRS probably means you should ignore this post all together :D

well thats another week gone by, still no car. last contact was last tuesday when i was told they were waiting on the oil breather part, skoda uk were meant to call me yesterday to keep me up to date but i heard nothing. this has been 4 weeks arnold clark have had my car for a 3 day job and still i dont have my car back. to say im dissapointed with skoda uk and arnold clark is a massive understatement. this had turned into a total farce. not sure what im supposed to do now, do i contact trading standards directly and give them all the information? what can i expect in terms of a resolution? i go away on holiday this saturday for 2 weeks and i cant see me having this car back before then, i am going to give me son full authority to deal with this on my behalf while im away but im just fed up with the whole situation.
