Number plate

Featured Replies

Hi all

Where's the best place to get replacement number plates from? Mine are looking a little tired and what's the best tape to use?

Thanks

Charlie I use 3M tape .... and lots of it (about 8 strips going from the top to bottom) I bought mine from eBay and it's about 1" wide.

Don't buy the plates from the Auto-factors in Folkestone (I won't name them as my mate owns the company!) but mine started fading after around 12 months)

if you can, get ones that use the old style numbers and letters that are physically stuck onto the backing (which is then stuck to the perspex front) rather than ones that are printed on, as it is the ink that fades like mine have done - let me know if you find someone local so I can replace mine.

It depends on what you are after really, if your wanting run of the mill bog standard ones then any local motor factor will do them.

You can order them online with all sorts of logos, slogans, fonts etc, but not all of them are 100% legal

As for tape to fix them on with, I have always used 3m Double sided tape and had no problems with it

Thanks both. Was after some bog standard ones. My current ones are screwed in and look horrid.

I found a website that does them. Myshowplates.co.uk they also do road ones which look good for the price and a 2 year guarantee

eBay. User iankaren, £9.99 a pair delivered, road legal and 3M backing!

Philip, can you tell me are the ones from Iankaren:

1/ Are the numbers and letters printed onto the white/yellow background which is then stuck onto the FRONT of the acrylic?

2/ Are the numbers and letters printed onto the white/yellow background which is then stuck onto the REAR of the clear acrylic?

3/ Are they vinyl numbers and letters which are then stuck onto the white/yellow background which is then stuck onto the REAR of the clear acrylic? (the way number plates used to be made)
