New contract time.. SG3? One X? Wait for Note II? Or..?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone got new contracts recently, mines coming to an end and would like to know what sort of deals are you finding?

Right off the bat, sorry not an Apple fan, not overly a Samsung fan either but it seems they've been dominating the markets at the moment. I'll be sticking with T-mobile (probably) and they don't have any decent deals with the HTC One X.

Currently have a Desire HD and its been good.

Not overly on the no SD card nor removal of battery on the One X. Can anyone share any experience with this?

SGS3 still looks and feels plasticy, not overly on the touchwiz either but im sure one can flash custom roms with Sense attached to it, so suppose its not a huge issue.

Note II isnt out yet and rumoured to be out next month for tmobile? but no idea on the cost...

Contracts up next month but can renew now.

Did contemplate on selling the new phone and wait until a better solution comes around but that requires effort selling the phone.

Any thoughts or comments or thoughts will be appreciated :)

I've had an SIII since launch and continue to be impressed with it. The low capacity non-removable battery is a complete deal breaker for me. Having had HTCs for years (starting with Orange SPV) I really wanted to like this phone but I think HTC have gone off the boil a bit recently, the One X has had a fair few reliability issues and a lot of them have had to go back, there is a revamped version due imminently called the One X+. The only current HTC I would consider at the moment is the One S

How robust is your SIII? Last I had a samsung I snapped the screen in half by putting it in my front jeans pocket and sitting.....

I have a One X stepped up from a wildfire the difference is night and day.

if you take the time to set the phone up properly you can avoid the fast battery drain that folk complain about. Great screen, fast for browsing, SD can't be removed, but why do you need to?

battery can't be removed but you can charge things almost anywhere these days.

Had a One X for a while, cant fault it, is superb. Was a toss up for me between the SGS3 and this, picked the One X as it looks better and felt better put together.

SGIII wins on battery life, SD slot and removable battery but not really a huge issue for me. Touchwiz is also rubbish though you can just use a custom rom.

The new One X+ just has a faster processor and possibly a larger battery, which will make it slightly thicker. The processor is more than quick enough anyway so just seems like a "for the sake of it" change.

It certainly feels more substantial than an SII. I don't baby it but I'm not overly precious of it either so far no blemishes. I do have the official flip cover which replaces the back cover of the phone and has a flap that goes over the screen -adds hardly any bulk.

No phone is indestructible - It's probably no worse or better than anything else.

You don't even need to root and add a custom rom, just change the launcher. I have an s2 and an s3, and don't use touchwiz on either of them

Go into a store that has them on display as working phones and try them side by side is my advice.

Also check out Techradar for reviews.

sgs4 rolled out in march ?

More likely the new Google Nexus phone Samsung are making. :)

I thought LG were making the next Nexus?

Carphone Warehouse usually have demo handsets that you need to ask to have a look at.

Just random rumour mill that always seems to accompany these things. Article claimed a new Samsung handset that could be the new Nexus.

Maybe we'll finally see the release of the bendy Samsungs, which they had hoped to launch 'some time in 2012'

I've currently got an LG optimus 3D, but I've taken a real shine to the next Nokia Lumia 920! So I'm going to wait until November for that mighty machine! :-)

I'm currently out of contract and looking to upgrade and I'm going through similar dilemmas about what to get! I've always wondered about the sheer size of the S3, as I carry mine around in my pocket mostly. However a couple of people where I work have the S3 (and they both absolutely love it) and I've done the "pocket test" and it's actually not bad at all...helped by the fact that it's very thin.

There is also the S3 LTE coming out in October which will be able to use 4G (the current S3 can't) - if you're a heavy internet user then it could be worth waiting.

I've had my SGS 2 for about 18 months...it's a fantastic phone..thought about getting a SGS 3 but didn't think the few extra features really made it a 'must do'. However, my wife got a Note...OMG, what a screen, perfect for web use & the diary which was the big selling point for her. It's big, but still fits in a jeans pocket...I'll be upgrading to the Note 2 when it arrives!

I'm using the SGSII at the moment, I've dabbled with the SGSIII that my collegue has and TBH I dont see it as a worthwhile upgrade. Speed differences are negligable for daily use. The screen is nice, but maybe a little big, even for me a 6'3ft guy with big hands. I'd love to see it in the hands of a smaller person.

I am a big Android fan and love how powerful the system is, but I feel it's getting a little stale and boring. Hopefully when I flash a Jelly bean ROM that will change.

The announcement of the Nokia Lumia 920 and Windows phone 8 look interesting. WP8 looks a very promising OS and the Lumia 920 equally promising hardware and design wise.

Not sure if I can pry myself from Android though, it's so powerful, especially with apps like Tasker.

Decisions Decisions!

Jellybean has a few new bits and its quick but other than that its not got any huge differences. :)

Hey, thanks for all the responses its very helpful.

Just a small update, looking at the Galaxy Note 2. Saw it in carphone warehouse and its a beast (5.5" screen)...... Friendly lady @ t-mobile gonna have a chat with me on saturday to see what she can get me. If she cant get me anything decent I maybe jump to S3.. Still not 100% on it, feels like paper.

Just read this, 79% drop in profits! Seems like HTC might be in long-term trouble http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19879861

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!
