S3 rack issue!

Featured Replies

Does the s3 rack have more turning circle than a standard one? I'm only asking as I've just fitted one and now the wheels are touching the inner arches when in full lock.

have you had the tracking done yet? maybe toeing out too much

Tracking has been done although I'm not 100% happy with that at the moment

i know mine are very close with tracking blob on. May as you say have a tighter circle. Does it touch front and back of the wheel?

mmm, I never had any trouble, even on the std hubs it never was an issure

How low are you and what rims you running?

I would guess aftermarket? 8j rims?

then it might, but if the std one didnt I dont think they are different on angles, just the gearing to make it faster turn.

im back to tracking again based on that

yeah tracking is the likely culprit

but saying the i did leave a few marks on my inner liners on full lock with spiders !!!

but when do you ever drive on full lock ;-)

Clive hurry up with the hunter kit!

I want my fabia doing right and the black one will be ready for doing too.

Just found some play in the rack! Same as the one I took off so I assume this is factory play so to speak?

There was no play in it on my csr. You sure its not your colum?

That rack was on the other car too and was solid.

Shouldnt be any play.

Some get a slight nock. David8 had some on his and was same after trying 3 racks. Mine didnt have any.

yeah there is a slight knock, it was ok just started do do it the same as the old one, it could be the uj on the colum good shout.

dave was gonna have the old rack off the 51 plate car I had but tbh the pita to change is not really worth it for just a slight nock,

hope you get it sorted mate, might be able to just change out the lower section?

maybe its just annoying

once its got the power you wont care about a slight knock lol

p.s i got a spare colloum if you need it buddy

Don't ask ........

Still does it.

Got to be the coloum ....fed up of thinking about it now

dont worry bout it dave,

my fabia has a slight nock too but its not bad so doesnt bother me.

Mine has rubbed on the arches since I got the 8J rims and 225 tyres.

I'm hoping that now I have 215s on it will stop and I can paint up that bit of shiny bare metal I have on each front arch.

These pics are from some time ago :)

My S3 rack has been ok and no rubbing / knocking on either my old RS4 18" and my recent spiders

Mine knocks too, according to Steve! Never noticed it when driving. Could well be the UJ that wears, I remember how bad my T5 was. Still feels better than that Merc though ;)

Mines bad, rattles like hell, you can have a go tomorrow.

Column on my octy knocks slightly and I stripped out the bottom, and its the uj with very minimal play. Packed it with hheavy grease and that helped.

I will get to the bottom of it, i usually do!!

Best of luck, I've been like a dog chasing it's tail for about 4 yrs, I've gone through, bottom arms, about 3 set of drop links, various rear bushes, tie rods, changed the std rack for a re-con, then anS3 one which exploded, I'm now back on the re-con which is leaking, front end suspension parts just don't last with me, half the time there was nothing wrong with the stuff I changed , I know the speeds humps and crap roads don't help, but I wonder if something else is wrong which causes things to move about too much.I had new ARB bushes and clamps about 2 mths ago, already squeaking again !!!
