Boost

Featured Replies

I'm getting 10psi in 2nd, 9psi in 3rd and 8psi in 4th gear. Car has Milltek non-res and 3 inch dp/decat but otherwise standard. Is this normal? Would of expected boost to go up a little with the decat. Goes like stink otherwise.

Thats fine buddy ;-)

Considering its otherwise standard it goes quite well, keeps up with quite a few 200+bhp cars but feels a bit slow after the Mondeo.

boost wont increase with a decat lol. All done via a map.

With a map i can hit peak boost of 20psi and hold 15-16psi

Tails off high rpm though as i have a poop standard cat in place :(

strictly speaking that isn't true for all. hence why I asked what my boost behaviour should be.

Agree, standard VRS's are slow, remapped ones are way quicker.

Obviously its going to be quicker mapped. I never said it was fast did I? My van goes like stink, for what it is. Its all relative.

What surprises me is just how much better it goes over standard with the 3 inch DP/Decat and Milltek. Its much swifter than when I first got it. So when I say it goes like stink, doesnt mean I'm suggesting its a quick car, as quick as a remapped car or a 13 second 1/4 mile car, I'm not an idiot with the VRS being my first introduction to turbo world, I had a 250bhp/1000kg car years ago, so I do know the difference.

Yeah its all relative and Dont worry buddy we are messing

No disrispect to you Clive, this isnt aimed at you , but generally it puts me off posting on forums these days. The other day I posted on the Transit forum with a progress report, its been remapped, EGR disabled and runs close to 130PS (was an 85PS) and had recently been driving it economically, achieving over 42mpg, I get accused of being a liar and a bull****ter!!

I then come on here asking a basic question to clarify and have people tell me a VRS isnt fast unless its a Stage Two and its like teaching you granny to suck eggs, I know what a quick car is and not being funny, a stage two VRS isnt going to scare the crap out of me, i've driven 350bhp+ FWD and RWD cars and nothing really feels quick anymore, all I was saying is its going very well for the limited set up at the moment.

I know what you mean about some forums, shoot you down in flames, but I can honestly say the guys on here are a friendly and helpful bunch.your car will be going better, the standard downpipe is fairly restrictive.I remember a few years back when I had a pulsar gti-r,I fitted a 3inch turbo back exhaust to it,it made 2 psi more boost compared to standard exhaust, just shows you.

Dont be ridiculous!! My old Maestro made another 2 psi boost by just replacing the exhaust, let alone the downpipe! Those were the days, just wind the actuator rod shorter, sand the carb needle and an instant 30bhp.

I was never in one but I got told the maestro turbo was a quick car in its day,I heard from a guy who had a standard sapphire cosworth one kept up with him.that was back in the day when I was a young pup.
