New Skoda Octavia 2.0 FSI, coil pack replaced twice

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a New Skoda Octavia 2.0 FSI, one month old.

The car has been on repair twice already. First time two CoilPacks was replaced. Next time two CoilPacks was replaced again.

I do not feel happy about this. :(

Is this a known problem with New Skoda Octavia? I read old posts about problems with different versions of coilpacks and some coilpacks being replaced by Skoda.

Yes...this is a well known problem.

It's not isolated just to Skoda but the whole of VAG...VW/Seat/Audi. I would say it's not even VAGs fault more a supplier fault...must be something in the region of the foruth supplier now....one of them will get it right..eventually. ;)

Out of interest do you park your car on the road at night i.e not in a garage?

Funny you asked.

I usually park my car in a garage. But, the nights before my car went to repair, I parket it on the road. The night temp was about zero degrees celcius.

Has this anything to do with it?

Lars

I thought the reason for coil packs dying was due to damp causing them to disintergrate...not sure how true this is but.....my car was kept religiously from new in the garage and only when we moved home and couldn't use the new garage was it parked up outside.....coil pack went...I had the notorious H types but they were ok for 2 years uptil then.

You should be ablet o get them changed on warranty...Skoda have sent out a bulletin to dealers to do this.

No official recall though.

The coil packs where changed on warranty, the car is only one month old.

What's a coilpack?

What's a coilpack?

Do they have them on Diesels

Adrian, is it really well documented?

So the new Octy, with the 2.0 FSI normally aspirated engine has the same problems as the old 1.8T engine? Will they ever learn?

Although I haven't heard of it and reckon it is a one off, I could be wrong and am quite prepared to be corrected.

No...petrol only.

Jon,

coil pack problems are well known but as you correctly said not for the new Octavia.

Must admit to "just" reading coil packs and posting.... :o although I wonder if the same packs are used in the FSI? One of the techs could confirm.

IIRC 2 went on the car, one after the other, so hopefully a faulty batch.

What are the symptoms of coil-pack problems? My Octy has been juddery on start up, when the engine is cold, it feels like its about to stall when I pull away, was wondering if it would be coil-pack related, not the most mechanically minded person in the world...

Mine does that too sometimes (usually its in the garage overnight, but once in a while i forget to put my beloved in the garage before going to bed). My old N (96) reg Citroen AX never did it even though that was always left out

The symptom on my car was that the motor where spasmodic/jerky when driving. Also, the yellow warning lamp for exhaust emission control where lightning constantly.

If on start you don't let it idle until revs are around 1k you will get a jerky response to begin with.

When my coil pack went the engine was very rough as it was running on 3 cylinders only. CEL will come on.

I'm not sure how you diagnose the problem before a coil pack actually goes, although I did notive an reduction in mpg a couple of week uptil the failure.
