Octavia 1 RS 1.8T 150 bhp fault codes

Featured Replies

Briskodians,

I'm looking to pick up this car and the fault codes are like this. Apparently, car is running on a bad battery which needs immediate replacement. Upon vag com scan done by another knowledgable briskodian we have these fault codes. Ross-tech wiki remedies suggest TB cleaning & alignment and reasons for other codes indicate faulty battery/generator. I'm a bit worried about the fault code for the Lights because of this thread http://www.briskoda....er-part-number/

Owner says there is no flickering on the xenons and they are working perfectly

You're not really going to know what are persistent fault code until you replace the battery, clear the codes and see if they reappear after powering off/on the car.

ps

If there's enough battery to start the car, there should be enough juice to clear fault codes and do a re-scan.

ps :If there's enough battery to start the car, there should be enough juice to clear fault codes and do a re-scan.

I don't have first hand experience with vag-com. Ideally i know there should be no errors but in reality is it true that cars will have errors without owner realizing that something is wrong ? I mean everything is working good from driving perspective and there could be errors. By your PS remark, do you suggest that upon clearing and re-scan , all the errors should disappear. If so, how would we know that battery is weak. Even ross-tech wiki shows bad battery/generator as the reason for the errors for some of them. Will do a scan upon a new battery anyway. just want to learn

In the first instance, all those codes you have listed mean; at some stage when the car was running or starting, it ran out of enough amps to power the electrics

Error codes are generated when an error occurs, and sit there until cleared, whether the problem that caused the error has been fixed or not.

Therefore clearing the fault codes, re-starting and running the car, then re-checking for fault codes is the only way to see if you have persistent codes being generated.

The way to for a faulty battery and/or generator (alternator), is with a voltmeter

If the battery ever died or needed jump starting after sitting it would bring these codes up. If used the battery could be fine and hold charge.. I would clear them and see how the battery goes
