Claerwen Dam lane

Featured Replies

There was a "meet-up" arranged by Richardfavorit today in the Elan Valley, in Mid Wales. (http://www.briskoda....er-elan-valley/)

Three Yetis were in attendance and four Fabias.

After meeting at the Elan Valley Centre for coffee and lunch

we had a discussion and it was agreed that we Yetiists would take the Fabiaist on a little adventure.

We drove up the first part of the Elan Valley and then turned off to Clearwen Dam, (whttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claerwen) here we parked in the car park

We then drove the length of the Claerwen Lake, turned around and drove back again, stopping to admire the view on the way

We happened upon a nice little quarry that gave a chance for some "photo oppurtunities"!!

Not so obvious from that side is how the white one is parked. This is a bit better

No Jerry, we didn't!!

Come on, I'm local and a member of a very reputable 4x4 organisation, so know the legalities up there.

However on the west bound journey we met a group of 4 LR's that had obviously come that way, and on our return a group of quads and another group of 4x4's, who I advised on the legality, issues but who I am sure did actually continue.

As you well know it's a contentious byway/UCR.

I'm 99.9% sure there is a legal through road, The Elan Valley Trust contested the legality in court years ago and they had a more expensive lawyer. But we mortals don't count among Guardian reading lefties and their like who run the estate.

I think I went through back in 1997, through the ford and not over the Welsh Water bridge. The headlights went under the water I remember.

I gave up traversing "green lanes" when the CRoW act came into force in Wales. I stay at home, and the naughty ones still go out causing mayhem with little or no enforcment - it's same with everything - -you can make all the laws you like, the law abiding obey and there is no enforcement, the "law" continues to be broken.

You can probably feel my sense of injustice :wall:

I had my excuses ready, we were delivering a fast food leaflet to the farm near the end of the track!

Here are a few of my pictures from the day in Elan valley.

The line up, Yetis and Fabias in a few different styles and colours.

Thanks James

Jerry,

I know some of the people who are currently trying to sort something out over the 1.5km of dubious lane, but so far nothing has been found, back to the 1920's that actually show it was ever adopted as a LEGAL RoW. The last ploy I was told was that "if" Ceredigion and Powys would make that short bit legal then perhaps the various "off-road" user Groups would agree to the downgrading of the permanently (and justifiably) TRO'ed Monks Trod.

Great photos. Looks like all had a great time.

Yes reminds me of the first Yeti/Freelander adventure over there; great fun :)
