Spacers / Adapters for fitting BMW wheels to Skoda

Featured Replies

I posted previously about whether my winter wheels and tyres off my BMW would fit my skoda. They dont as it turned out. Probably obvious if you know anything about wheels etc but i didnt. And still dont.

From what i can gather the BMW wheels have a PCD of 5x120, Bore of 72.5mm, offsett of 34mm and use 12x1.5 bolts.

The Skoda requires PCD 5x112, Bore 57.1mm, offsett 47mm, bolts 14x1.5

The tyres are still in almost new condition so want to re-use them so what are my options? Obvioulsy i can buy new steel wheels or can i get spacers, hub rings, adapters or something to make the BMW steel wheels fit?

I started searching on google and quickly got confused. I would be very surprised if there was an adaptor that worked but im kinda hoping there is.

If not where is bets place to buy cheap steel wheels to the credentials i need for the skoda?

Very common adaptor, actually - lots of VW's run BMW alloys.

Try any of the big VAG tuners, like Awesome GTI, PSI Tuning etc - they should be able to get adaptors for you.

plenty out there, or you can get Machined yourself from those that do them.

Also plenty of the Correct 'used' Wheels available for 'Much Cheapness'

& possibly cheaper than Adaptors and using wheels, just because you have them.

(If you buy used wheels be sure to get the Wheel Nuts that go with them, or a Cheap Buy can become expensive)

Just sell the Ones you have, Plenty needing them in Aberdeen.

You can get PCD adapters suitable to go from BMW to VAG, but in this instance the ET is the wrong way round, yours will currently be somewhere around ET50 (probably 54ish) when you fit spacers or adapters you reduce the ET, so your BMW wheels will end up around ET4 - ET14 which is never going to sit inside the arches.

As for spare wheels, there are loads of Audi (A4, A6 etc) alloys on eBay that can be found for around £100ish.

These will be around 7 or 7.5" wide with an ET around 45, which will be perfect.

Tried some of the websites recomended, awesome gti etc but couldnt see what i needed.

Is ET the same as offset? I still cant get my head round that but it seems mine are the wrong way round anyway. Tried ebay. Jeepers, they are wanting £203 for a set of 4 steel wheels. Stuff that. Kinda prefered the idea of steel wheels as 16" VW alloys will look guff i think. At least the steel wheels make it obvious you have changed your tyres for winter but small VW alloys, people might think i fitted them as i liked them and always run them.

Might be cheaper flogging the lot and starting again. Had them on gumtree for weeks though with no interest so that might not be an option.

Can someone explain in laymans terma how the ET or offet works? Does it really matter as they are smaller wheels than my standard alloys anyway i.e skinnier. The tyres are 205/55/16 and when i fitted them on the BMW they sat further back in the wheel arches compared to the alloys.

BMW has 34mm offset and skoda has 47mm. 13mm of a difference, does it really matter and in what direction is the 13mm i.e further in or out from hub?

To read it at your leisure,

google Tyre Bible or similar.

You have ET, Back Spacing etc. 'Offset'

You need to clear your calipers & not rub,

be that the the inside of the tyre or the outside.

You need a Tyre with a Speed Rating to suit the Vehicle on a Wheel to suit the Vehicle.

The long and short is for winter in the North East, not Low Profile tyres, not too wide, & a Cold Weather tread,

snows are not required.

Sorry, on a bad connection that i keep loosing so can not link & have needed to type loads of times.

Maybe look into 'Specialist Cars' & see have they have any take off Wheels for a Bargain.

Or any of the many Custom Wheel or Tyre places in your area.

If the ET is less than 45 then it's the further outwards they will sit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

These may help you to understand it a bit better:

The larger the ET the closer the wheel will be to the inner arch (as on your BMW, the lower the ET the closer the wheel will sit to the outside wheel arch, bear in mind that the ET is taken from the centre of the wheel, so the wheel width has a direct bearing on the ET as well.
