Suspension differences

Featured Replies

I was wondering, does the 4 wheel drive yeti have the same rear suspension set up as the two wheel drive? ie. springs and linkage etc...

The reason being, our new tdi 140 4X4 seems harder on the rear than our previous 1.2tsi, according to swmbo.

many thanks....

For MY10 no both the same rear Tiguan rear suspension subframe. MY11 however 2wd switched to a simpler 2wd Golf subframe at the rear, although other components remained the same.

Also remember you now have the weight of a rear diff at the back.

Regards,

TP

Remember that with a 2.0 diesel over a 1.2 petrol and a 4x4 system your new car is quite a bit heavier than the old one.

Something like 200kg in total.

Many thanks, our 1.2 was a MY11, the 140 is a MY13

I realise that the 140 is heavier with the rear diff and driveshafts but the car is stiffer at the rear whereas in theory the extra weight should make it sloppier

i thought that perhaps the rear coils were different, perhaps in length or rating!

No, just lower to the ground :giggle:

The springs will be uprated (stiffer) to cater for the extra load and the software tuned to cater for the extra rear drive handling characteristics - so yes it will feel different to a lighter 2wd car

I sort of have the same experience...the 4x4 Tdi definitely have harder suspension than the 2WD.

and I have the 17" inch tyres 225/50-17, and it does not make as comfortable ride as I would have liked to.

so IMO, there must be stiffer springs on the 4x4
