Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just placed an order for a new Fabia Monte Carlo.

Looking at adding upgrades as we would like to keep for a few years.

Amundson nav system.

Climate control.

Maxi Dot

Sure I have read the maxi dot comes with either the bluetooth or the nav system asked the dealers but they arent sure.

Any opinions on the above before I add to the order would be appreciated.

Have spoken to the dealer late tonight and they have informed me that neither the bluetooth or nav come with the multi dot can anyone confirm what we have been told is true.

Seems use having sat nav or phone if having to pay extra for maxi dot to read information in centre of dash.

Thanks

Maxi dot came wiith ours that had the factory blue tooth installed.

How do you operate the factory bluetooth phone system in the Monte :wonder: owners handbook talks about using a multifunction steering wheel but that doesn't look like an option on this trim :wonder: :wonder:

TP

From my experience:-

The Skoda website car configurator says that if you spec the Amundsen sat nav unit you get maxi-dot. This however is not the case.

A memo from June 2012 tells all dealers that the maxi-dot is an optional extra that needs to be added at the time at an extra cost of £133+VAT. I managed to get this free with my order as I was not informed about it when I placed the order, and so I rightly complained. If I had not spoken to a couple of Monte owners over the last couple of days I would of been none the wiser and wouldn't of got maxi-dot once the car had arrived.

So to get maxi-dot you have to specify it as an extra otherwise you won't get it. :)

You operate the bluetooth via the windscreen wiper control stalk. Cant say it is the best system but it is a damn better than having something stuck in your ear all the time. Only use it for receiving calls and the very odd call out.

I looked at the Sat Nav and it seemed a bit much to me when it didn't come with bluetooth.

I've been looking at one of these http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_7928wt_1398

You would be better off going for an Amundsen Plus if you can find one (RNS 315) as they have Bluetooth built into the Head Unit and you can operate it from the head unit, you don't need maxidot for it.

Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-RNS-315-SAT-NAV-/150907153986?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2322c46e42

Skoda Amundsen Plus units seem to be as rare as hens teeth though, and don't get confused between the Amundsen (RNS 310) That does not have Bluetooth and the Amundsen Plus (RNS 315) That does have bluetooth + 4GB Flash Drive for Map Storage.

I have recently ordered a new Monte and I specified the Amundsen colour screen sat nav (No Maxi Dot...), is this likely to be the RNS 315 or just the RNS 310???

This I think is something I should've looked into before ordering the car!!

Not sure Steevie, I would guess as it's new it would be an Amundsen Plus unit, If the maps are "built in" it's a plus, if the maps are on the SD card and there's no bluetooth it's an Amundsen.

I thought, but could be wrong, that Amundesn Plus had replaced Amundsen in builds since something like May last year.

It's probably possible to retrofit Maxidot if you wanted it, I will let you know in a few weeks ;)

Aside from it looking better, the old bag style climate control on the Fabia is kind of pointless. The standard temp control and air con works just fine.

That's £250 you can save ;)

I went for met paint, maxi dot, spare wheel, heated seats (I live up north) and then bought an Amundsen from a forum member for £300

Thought long and hard about options for our Monte C order and decided to only go for options that have proved useful, particularly in the winter, on both our current Fabia Elegance and the Yeti, features rarely used such as bluetooth were eventually dismissed.

Ended up with ESP plus, Cruise and Headlight washers. PDC came close but decided three options were enough, although since rang the dealer and asked them to add the extended warranty, although my conversation with the sales chap didn't convince me he would remember to fulfil this request :wonder:

Already have mats and a spare wheel kit, so they will be transferred over to the MC when she arrives.

Welcome to the Monte experience, I've had mine sice July (wanted to spec it up not couldn't wait) i looked at the built in sat nav but had a rear view mirror one on my Roomster for the last 3 years so got another one for the monte. Having spoken to my local dealer it wouild cost me as much to get the sat nav from Ebay and have it fitted as it would cost to have the after market Kenwood sytem from skoda!

No offence buddy but I have one of these Chinese units fitted in my touran and has been flawless for 2 years now didn't pay that much either was £249. Granted I only use it as a stereo, iPhone dock and Bluetooth using it occasionally for satnav the DVD and freeview functions are wasted as I never use them.

As for our monte the oem Bluetooth works great would be better if you could control via stereo instead of wiper stalk

Whoops double post

Fair enough mate, but I have seen plenty of ropey ones kicking around and lot's of failures. Some people have had good experiences with them, I always think that you get what you pay for.

I have just gone for a Pioneer AVIC 9310 for mine now, dedicated VAG sized unit, steering wheel button 's and CAN support, shows parking sensor information in the display and climate control info.

If it was a chinese unit I was going for, it would be from a UK seller, at least you can deal direct for warranty issues. There's a good thread in the MK2 Octy section about a good UK supplier in Liverpool of the chinese unit's that offers fitting services as well.

I do it all myself anyway.

Suppose I may be one of the lucky ones lol (touch wood)

  • 1 year later...

I've just taken delivery of my Monte Carlo 1.6 TDI (105)

I'm delighted with it

Can someone in the know  advise me:

Is it possible to retrofit an Amundsen Sat Nav to it? I hear conflicting reports some have said because of the ECU you can't retrofit.

Also someone has advised a more expensive Alpine unit for the vehicle which they say can be fitted no problem but they would say that as they want to sell it to me!

Thanks in advance for the heads up
