Temperature Sensor Location on Octy RS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago my Octavia RS decided to stick it's engine management on permanently. It's also taken to occasionally mis-firing when the engine is warm and you give it some stick. I took it into my nice Skoda dealer, who stuck a VAG-COM cable up it and it had registered 3 faults: 2 were a mis-fire on cylinder 3, and the 3rd was that a temp sensor was faulty. They cleared the light and ordered me a new sensor. The light came back on a few days later, and I've now collected the offending sensor from Skoda. (It's part number 059919501A,

My old Octy RS had similar symptoms last week. The temp sensor & coilpacks were replaced. I presume the misfire was as a result of the coilpacks???.... I know the fuel consumption had soared while the car was getting to operating temp.

If you haven't already, check the coilpacks to see if they are the "dodgy" ones.

apparently the book time is 0.7 hours - a tad pricey I suspect.

Had 1 replaced on my car today, did not see where it is located, but it took them all of 5mins to do it and only charged me for the part and vat, total of 29euro :thumbup:

Cheers for the pic - I think I've an idea where it is. I'm waiting for the engine to cool after the trip home before I try looking though! ;)

The sensor is easy to fit by the looks of it (assuming you know where it goes!) - just one clip and a plug.

I don't think it's a coilpack thing - they're all the 'L' version, and have been replaced fairly recently (no. 3 cylinder was done in december). It also only gets the hump once the engine has been running for quite a while (like an hour) or has been sitting in traffic. It's fine when it's cold. I'll be taking the coilpack back if it turns out to be that.

My theory is that the sensor is confusing the ECU and it's sticking too much/little fuel in, which could cause the mis-fire I think.

Cheers for all the help,

Dave

Sounds like you looking at the right thing, it should be in the top coolant hose around here...

Changed one on a AUM engine yesterday, take the covers off and look down the right hand side (as you look at the car from the front), it is located in one of the hoses there, has a 4 wire plug going to it.

So basically where my picture says it is..lol
