Rumor: Production of Elegance model stopped temporarily...

Featured Replies

A user on the Danish Citigo forum just wrote that two separate dealers had told him that the production of the Elegance model will be stopped until week 49 due to 'issues' with the leather pack (steering wheel, handbrake & gear lever).

I'll get back when my dealer gets back to me.

I'll be very sad if that's true... :(

Might explain my order delay

Keep us posted please

The rumor is true.

But, I was told that mine is not a problem since I have already been given a production week (week 41). But other people (with no production week) will have a problem.

He did not specify a reason, so he has got mail again.

Sorry for the rest of you...

Update:

No production in week 45-48. So a 4 week delay. I guess, the weeks until week 45 have been filled by orders that will be built.

All Elegance models and Ambition models with 'PLD' option are affected (Ambition is the SE in the UK).

The info my dealer has is that the leather pack 'will have to be re-designed'. So maybe there is an issue that needs fixing later for the ones that are already built.

Well with my on going saga I phoned Skoda to get an update

Lass I spoke to says its showing as week 51 unconfirmed

She knew nothing of any delays but that means nothing

She was confident it will be moved forward

This is all a bit odd - I have just spoken to SUK and the girl I spoke to went and spoke to the production manager (or similar) and then came back saying there is no delay or hold up with elegance citigo's.

Then the best bit of news, I have an unconfirmed build week of 43 - which makes 6 weeks from order to build !!

As per signature ...

Citigo ordered week 37 - Elegance 60 5dr Greentech Candy White with Entertainment pack, spare wheel and 2 years additional warranty...

Maybe the delay is specific to LHD models.

I don't see signatures on mobile view

LHD? argh... Left hand drive, right?

Maybe, but why? A steering wheel is a steering wheel...

but the dash is the other way around, so maybe the issue is with LHD dashboards.

Well, apparently it's a leather issue, so I don't think the LHD dashboards are off the hook.

But maybe it is an issue specific to Denmark - but I don't think our leather is different from yours :)

Time will tell. Could someone contact Skoda UK imports (or whatever the name is)? They should know by now...

I spoke to Skoda UK And they knew nothing at 3pm today but I have a case open with them now and she has agreed to phone me with any news

She checked with the team that deals with factory orders as well

I don't think this is a problem as such, but Skoda are redesigning the steering wheels and gear shift levers on all the models as per information from the Paris Motorshow today: "Also available for the first time in the Citigo will be the new generations of ŠKODA

steering wheels and shift levers."

A normal re-design would not halt production for a month. It might not be a major issue but it's big enough for them to stop production until they have a different design. Stopping production in a car factory is a major thing.

I'm not worried though, I would expect them to do an update in my car, if the 'old' leather pack turns out to be faulty in any way. I'll make sure to get that written into my contract.

Might be to get the new style steering wheels

Yes, the steering wheel from the sport will be standard in all models - at least that's what someone on the Danish Citigo forum mentioned. It's the same design in the Rapid.

Still doesn't explain why they would stop production for a month.

  • 1 month later...

Just stumbled upon this video of the Elegance from the Paris Motorshow:

Besides the new steering wheel the last 10-15 seconds of the video reveals some significant changes to the boot area: boot light (on the left side), padded wheel arches, some luggage hooks and a 12 volt socket (at the right side)

If it is true the delay in production is easier to understand...

The end of that video is the boot of a Yeti, not a Citigo.

Bugger - didn't see that. I stand corrected :-)

Talking about boot lights - I got a wee light off Amazon (£8) and fitted it in the boot. It is LED so the 3 x AA's will last forever and it is IR movement activated but only in dim or dark conditions. Came in silver similar to my car, small, unobtrusive and works great. In fact it's much brighter than a normal boot light.

we ordered ours in august and not got a build date yet but if it goes on even if it comes in feb 13 they can wait until March until we pick it up!

I can hear the phone call now it makes no difference but you go to trade it in and it bloody will

as they say no likey no lighty............lol
