dash clock change

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Have just bought a set of used clocks off Ebay from a 2005 1,2 petrol car.

My car is a 2004 1.2 pre facelift model.

Are these clocks just a straightforward changeover or is there anything I should be wary of while fitting?

Cheers

What's wrong with your old clocks mate?

not 100% but isn't part of the immobiliser in the clock? might be me tripping but im sure ive read something like that.

You cannot just swap the clocks. The cars immobiliser is contained in there, and the new clocks will need to be paired with the engine ECU as well as all your keys needing to be coded to the immobiliser contain in the dash cluster. To do the swap, you will need the 4 digit PIN number for BOTH clusters, without them you cannot pair the immobiliser in the clocks to the ECU.

Once you have the 4 digit PIN's, a copy of VCDS can be used to swap the cluster. Before starting you must read all the adaption channels in the current clocks and its coding, otherwise you'll have dash lights on for equipment not fitted to your car that was on the donor, and likewise lights will not work for equipment on your car that was not present on the other.

Nothing wrong with old clocks, just fancied a change.

Oh well sounds lik a faff about just to swap clocks over,is it possible just to swap dials over?

Could you just take the clocks apart and use the newer "sheet" which has the revs and speed printed on it?

Just to elaborate, I mean this:

Well, dont know whats happened but now have no speedo function,no rev counter and airbag warning light has come on.F****ing sick!!

Dunno if I have damaged dash while taking it apart or what but absolutely gutted.

Did you try turning on the car with the clocks out? That can cause the airbag light to come on. Did you plug your dials in properly?

If the connectors not seated correctly could cause them not to work??

Tried all that mate had dash in and out a few times but looks like a failure across all dials.

Anyone any idea how much for a replacement?

There is a company that can repair them. Can't remember who they are but some of the octy owners have used them

About £300-£400 for a new one plus fitting.

I think I,ll go down the repair route first, the company is called Cluster Repairs UK,I,ll give them a call tomorrow, absolutely gutted!!!!

Once repaired (or replaced) will it have to go into dealer to get airbag light reset or is there another way round this?

air bag light can be reset by vcds. There are a few members with it so will be cheaper than going to the dealers

Well it goes from bad to worse!!

Got word back from repairers that my cluster was beyond repair,Called the local Skoda dealers who qouted me £361+ vat for a new one BUT labour would come in at 3 hours costing £216!!!!

Then called the dealer who I bought the car from who qouted same price to supply but £69.90 labour.

But they had none in stock, the factory was showing no stock so it looks like they are on back order.

To say I,m gutted is the understatement of the year!!

Can't you get one from a car being broken, then just code it over?

Getting the cluster wouldn,t be a hassle, but not sure how the coding over would go,I think you would need the codes for both cars .

Does anyone know of an Independant Skoda/Vw specialist in the Glasgow or surrounding area?

I wouldn,t mind a second opinion instead of all the dealer double speak.
