Check brake pads warning

Getting the "Check brake pads" constantly now...was intermittant before that. I know front and rear pads are fine as both were changed fairly recently and checked by my mechanic during service last month.

Probably sensor or wiring damage on reading this forum. Can anyone tell me how to get to the sensor/wiring to investigate.

Also, how would I disable the sensor as dont mind doing the manual check (like I have been for years).

The sensors are behind the front wheels, so take them off and trace the wiring from the pads. The connector itself is attached to the hub carrier iirc. The difficulty is cleaning the contacts effectively. To disable it permanently you'll either need to short the wires or leave the circuit open. Disconnect the sensor - if the warning goes away then just use insulatikn tape and then leave it, if the warning remains, use a paperclip to test whether the warning goes when shorted. If it goes, then you know you need to short it properly. Cut the wires, solder together and shrink wrap to protect. Easy peasy.

Start with the passenger side first ,this side is usually driving in the most water . Just Cut the wires that go to the brake pad, solder together and shrink wrap to protect. Exactly as the previous post I didn't need to do the driver side pad wiring.

Hmmm, I think my back pads dying(I dont hear noise tough), but I wonder whether we have the sensors on rear pads or just on front?

Sensors are only on fronts I believe.

They could installed them in rear not just in front, but what a hack....

I just need to look after their life cycle, and not allowed they messed up my disks.

What VAG did do in later models, was to fit one sensor on one front brake and one rear brake - VW started doing this in 2001 roughly on all new models that were normally fitted with brake wear sensors.

Thanks for this - I've been getting this every time I first touch the brakes for weeks now. Due for an MOT next week and the dealer has offered a "free visual health check" to include a brake inspection - I had another garage look at the fault last month and they told me the pads and disks are fine, so that was fifty quid for no great benefit. My fix for the headlamp level sensor was to remove the fuse - is this a possible fix for this problem or does the fuse cover other circuits? I certainly won't let them charge me for fixing it now I've read the notes above!
