mytyre winter wheel packages

Featured Replies

hi all,

has anyone ever bought a wheel and tyre package from mytyres? their alloy wheel and winter tyre deals seem pretty decent for what i was looking at

cheers

I bought asset of steel wheels and winter tyres form the last year, good deal and quick delivery.

Bear in mind if you fit aftermarket alloys then they will be deemed a modification and your insurance company will need to be informed, they will probably charge you an excess for this.

I had no such problems when I told them I am using genuine VAG alloys and winter tyres to Skoda's recommended sizes.

Loads of genuine Audi alloys on eBay.

I told my insurance and didn't have to pay an excess, I think that as long as the sizes are as per skodas recommendations then it's not an issue.

When I informed my insurer their only question was 'are the new wheels/tyres bigger than the originals'. I do have Skoda supplied 15" steels but that was not an issue. Their only concern was that the new tyres were no bigger/ wider than the originals. Not sure if there is an issue with alloys rather than steels, but wouldn't have thought so as long as sizes are similar.

Most insurers have now bought into not increasing premiums for winter tyres, some don't even need to be informed (http://www.abi.org.uk/Information/Consumers/General/Winter_Tyres__The_Motor_Insurance_Committment.aspx). However personally I still inform them, just in case!

I used mytyres last year and bought steel wheels ans winter tyres for my BMW. I searcher around a lot and they seemed very good value. I have since sold them as the BMW was traded in. I paid £540 last winter and sold them for £250. Didnt have much tread wear either. Could have probably got more but i just wanter rid of them as they were taking up space. Before you commit check gumtree etc for 2nd hand ones. In fairness £540 would have been fine if i had kept the car for another couple of winters so if you are planning on kepping the car then buying brand new isnt really a problem. 2nd hand steel wheels for VAG cars go for stupid money on ebay so they are a good investment when bought new. I would definately use mytyres agsin as the service and price was very good.

I got a set of VW golf alloys for 40 for my winters rough as hell but does the job lol

Phoned my insurance company up and they didn't care as I have unlimited non engine performance mods on my policy. Didn't even matter about the speed rating either as they said are you going to do 120mph? lol

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

I'm looking at the winter wheel packages on mytyres too...

They've just started listing proper sizes for the fabia vrs...205/55/R16 + steelies, so wil be ordering these next payday

I previously bought the package from mytyres (in 2010) but swapped them later in the following year to Skoda supplied steelies as, for me at least, I felt there was too much corrosion on the mytyres supplied steelies. The paint seemed to come off for no apparent reason. The Skoda ones have stood up far better and Ive used them more in worse conditions.

That's strange, I would have thought for the Mk2, you would buy 205/45 16, the same as the Mk1. I think this gives the same tyre circumference as 205/40 17.

Not sure, but it seems better than what SUK recommended. They said 195/55/15!

According to this site, http://www.etyres.co...-calculator.htm 205/55 16 are 36mm bigger in diameter (6.04%), than standard Mk2 vRS tyres! This will give you more ground clearance, which is good for snow, but your speedo & milometer will be incorrect.

45 profile are only 5mm smaller (0.84%) which is perfectly OK. Those 195/55 15s are the exact same diameter as 205/40 17s.

Used mytires for the second time and have an order somewhere on a boat to the UK from Germany at the moment... Gone for Falken HS449 . My only issue with their service is DPD courier's, who they use, who tried to deliver my first order twice after 8pm to the tyre fitter, who, unsurprisingly, had gone home. This time I have asked for them to be delivered to home. Their customer service don't speak very good english, so email a better way to contact them if you have issues.

Hmm, thats annoying. Now mytyres won't list any 195/55/15's with steel wheels...

With the speedo/mileometer thing- does setting this in the MFD make any difference, or is that for a speed warning only?
