8581 fault code help

Featured Replies

Anyone help with a fault code

VRS pd170 dpf removed and shark remap

new injectors following vosa recall

110,000 miles

Car intermittently losing power for a few seconds over last couple of days

Did same this morning, but brought coil and EM lights on

RAC patrol came out, erased codes, car runs fine now

Codes found were:-

00309 fuel pump

00802 air con (?)

P0135/PO322 ( crank sensor )

and 8581 which he doesnt have a reference for

Anyone help as to what 8581 is?

I would say the crank sensor might be the key one, could possibly cause the other faults?

yes was thinking that. last time the crank sensor came up it was a wiring fault not the sensor. thanks for reply

You have a mix of ODBII and VAG errors

000802 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28) - PO322 is the same thing - not the same as camshaft sensor

008581 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor on Radiator Outlet (G83)

P0135 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1; Heating Circuit

My guess is that some of the codes are wrong :(

Yeah my money is on the crank sensor too. I had cold starting issues with mine PD170 vRS after the VOSA injector recall and the dealer was quick to point suspicion at the crank sensor.

Sorry, can't help with 8581 I'm afraid...

My advice is to have it scanned again before you spend any money on it, thats if you intend to fix it yourself as 8581 doesnt carry any reference so its possible their has been a mis-understanding somewhere along the line.

thanks all. It has been in with these codes before, about 3 months ago, and was found to be a wiring fault- so will get to main dealer asap

many thanks

Main dealer couldnt fine a fault after repeated road testing

However, when I drove the car back, after about 10 mins it was as bad as ever. Stalling, rev counter needle behaving erratically, and a clicking relay noise from the ignition switch area. Almost as though an invisible hand was switching ignition on and off very fast.

Also noted my carphone was muted constantly ( it mutes for a few seconds when switching ignition on or off

I'm guessing a faulty ignition switch??

All sorted- 6 broken wires near oil cooler.

Last time was 3 broken wires near crank sensor.

Tech advises that he is seeing lots of vrs Octys with wiring faults

Still a lack of oomph low down- egr fault code showing. suggesting either to replace egr or get it mapped out band blanked off
