Help pls with photos - Exhaust temperature sensor 3 (G485) intermittent

Featured Replies

Hi

Could you please help with photos of bottom DPF exhaust temperature sensor installed on your Roomster 1.6 CR TDI? Photos of where sensor outer tip points out and how the cable is arranged between sensor and the plug would be very useful

Details:

The Roomie developed a hiccup, of course around the DPF (as in Damn Particulate Filter  ).

When driving for a long time in start-stop traffic, I start getting flashing glow plug light followed by VCDS message "exhaust Temperature Sensor 3 (G485) intermittent.

This is the sensor that is at the bottom of particulate filter, just above the steeering rack, and has an orange plug. The sensor itself has a 90deg angle lead out, and I am suspecting mine is rotated in a way that places cables too close to the exhaust pipe, making the electronics too hot.

Given that the "intermittent sensor" problem only ever happens when the engine/exhaust surroundings arer really hot, it does not sound like faulty solder joint plaguing earlier sensors, more like overheating. I am thinking that perhaps loosening and rotating the temp sensor a little to place cables correctly may cure the problem.

So if you could help with a photo or two on how sensors at bottom of the particulate filter can are mounted in your car, so that I can compare before repositioning my sensor, I would be grateful and offer help on other issues in return.

Given that sensor is £60 on Ebay and probably £100+ at dealership, positioning it correctly is something worth looking into. I could have mine fixed under warranty, but that's at least a day lost for what can be a 10min job at no extra cost.

CAYC engine, currently 5.3k miles / 8.5kkm. I can drive for hours at a time without fault, it is just prolongued start-stop traffic that brings it out.
