Extended front mudflaps

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm an exact living in Melbourne and as I'm an avid mountain biker, spend a bit of time on tracks etc getting to car parks, ride starts etc.

I'm concerned about stone chips and under body crap and wondered if anyone has found a supplier of extra wide/long mudflapsHey for Yetis.

My car has the new protection film applied to the rear arches but I really would like to belt and braces the job with some decent front flaps. I have the standard Skoda ones on it but they're very small and don't offer much protection. I also bout a kit that enables you to modify and lengthen them but the originals will not allow these to be fitted.

Any help much appreciated.

Dave

Don't know of any specific longer flaps. The only possible answer would be to buy a set of rally flaps and drill those to suit the standard mountings. I know someone has done that over here.

You might also consider the wheel arch kit.

The kit is for all four wheels, although pic in link below just shows rear.

Got it on ours and looks good as well as giving protection.

are these any good and worth fitting? - (we live in the countryside - generally the roads are dirty in winter with a lot of mud around, plus we do quite a lot of mway driving) - it does RAIN in France quite a lot in winter.

Did you fit them yourself - any problems

what do you reckon?

The Yeti already had them fitted when we bought it. They are a good flush fit, not flared out like 'boy racer' arches.

Check out the Urban as they have them fitted as standard.

Haven't had the car long but reckon they will give excellent protection as no metal is visable on the edges or inside the arch.

They are fixed by using a bonding adhesive and primer.

If you need even more protection you could fit the aluminium side step.

(Pic also shows Yeti fitted the wheel arch kit)

This would act like a huge mud flap protecting the sides. Expensive and not to everyone taste, but then if it saves on future paintwork bills it could pay for itself.

HTH

All the steps do is collect the muck and deposit it on the back of your trouser/leg as you try to side over them.

And they reduce the ground clearance.

Exactly right, if they collect the muck then that is muck which is not going up the side of your Yeti.

Longer legs will sort out your trouser soiling problem

My Yeti has now done more than 50k miles, nearly all of it on grotty roads around here, plus lots of off-road forestry tracks, and is seldom washed, and there are hardly any marks on it, and none I can see around the wheel arches.

Don't worry about it. Just get out and drive it!!

I have to concur that the yeti paint seems to be made of much tougher stuff than previous cars I've owned. Just clocked 16,000 miles and no stone chips. Both previous 2 cars Vectra and Mondeo both had plenty of stone chips at this mileage.

Just wish that the Screen was stronger. I'm on my 3rd stone chip repair now.

Mine picked up its first stone chip, courtesy of white van man, on Thursday. The stone was big enough that both my daughter and I saw it coming, but too late to do anything about it. Hit the roofline about 5mm above the top of the windscreen and has put in a 2mm divot, though it looks like there's still primer there. If it had been the screen there would have been a chip repair or worse, and with the heated screen more complicated to deal with I presume.

I have the wheel arch kit fitted and it does look very good, however I tried to fit the Skoda mud flaps today - The rear ones were fine, but the fronts will not fit properly over the front wheel arch, because of the extra trim. I don't know whether there is a special set of front flaps if you have this kit fitted.(?) I managed to screw them on so they will not fall off and I don't suppose anyone will notice; especially when they are coated in mud!

Quick trip down to Glaslyn should do that for you, Peter!!

Graham, I am sure it was you who mentioned that Ikea have some serving trays in Red or Blue that would make some cracking mud flaps.

My two penneth on longer mud flaps, be careful when reversing over uneven ground or up a kerb as they will trap between the wheel and the obstacle and rip the whole lot off.

They are Ikea Chopping mats, come in a pair, one red, one blue, so you need to buy two packs. They looked about 3mm thick, so if you can put up with the colour they looked good value.

And agreed about the risk if they are too long. It's where you need to check and measure twice before you fit them.

Thx for all the comments,

Will be going with Bahnstormers plan and will order the MSA flaps, either that or will try and source some 3-4mm polyurethane sheet to cut my own.

Funnily we visited a local Rainforest (temperate) yesterday and got home with a very dirty little Stumpi (his name :-)). It was a last minute decision and o wish I'd have started down the extended flaps road a couple of weeks ago so I already had em fitted.

Hey Ho, live n learn..

Then, we go to Ikea earlier and when we cam out, what was parked next Stumpi? Another Yeti, quite something out here as you rarely see the here currently.

Took a picture for posterity, wife clearly didn't get it. :-)

Good move!

Is Stumpi white or black? I'm guessing white and I like the 'yeti footprint' boot badge; I have the same although with a red reflective footprint.:thumbup:

Thanks,

Stumpi is the white one.

I did deliberate over white or red for the badge, obviously took the white route :-) although I did confer with SWMBO, let het think it was her idea, you know, like you do. ;-)

I love the car.

Just have to wait for the Rally flaps now, can't buy anything like them here.
