Strange Twittering Noise - Help Please

Featured Replies

Went out to the car this morning. Started it up and SAI cut in so I sat and waited for it to go off as I would normally before driving off. Before it went off I turned my headlights on and as soon as I turned the switch i was greeted with a strange twittering noise from the engine bay. I turned them off and it went away. Turned them back on and it came back. Any one had this before or have any idea what it may be?

Halogens or plasma discharge?

Just standard halogens mate. I'm wondering whether it may be early signs of alternator failure?

Ok, it's not the ballasts since you've not got them.

If you're wondering about the alternator, you could check the voltage across the battery. It should be between 14v and 15v with the engine running and not a deliberately heavy load (so don't put on lots of stuff, but no need to turn ventilation and radio off).

Just a though, have you checked the level motors on both lights. One of mine is buggered and makes a chattery noise. Seems the location sensor fails, so it then just spends it's time hunting, or bumping of the end stop.
