International warranty on a Bolero?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Just bought a Skoda Bolero radio from a guy in Manchester. It´s the "will-only-fit-Superb" one. It looks brilliant, but it does´nt work. It´s completely dead. It was sold as "removed from a new car to fit sat-nav, but is untested, as I don´t own a Skoda myself". So I don´t think I can claim the seller that much.

The date on the label on top of the radio says "produced february 2011", so it should still be under warranty. I will try to take it to my local dealer on monday, since my car is going in for its first service anyway. My problem is, I don´t know if they want to help me, since the radio is from the UK.

In case they´re not able to help me, should I then send the radio to a UK Skoda dealer - and which one? And how do I do that? Maybe they will think I´m crazy contacting them from over here regarding warranty on a radio.

Oh, by the way, I live in Denmark!

Any help appreciated, thanks.

I suggest you speak to a UK dealer to check it's not been reported/registered as stolen.

It's a bit odd that the seller would have a radio, but no skoda and can't confirm that it worked before removal to fit the sat nav.

Saying that, have you checked to see if it's got an internal fuse or anything?

I think he fitted it for a friend. He sounds very fair. It's not stolen, I checked the serial number at my local dealer to obtain the code for the radio before the radio arrived. The fuse is sadly okay :(

Well, my local Skoda dealer can only help me, if I can get the VIN number from the car, the radio was originally fitted in.

So I hope, the seller will supply me with that.

if its the code you need, then you must have the VIN of the original car otherwise you have purchased a nice door stop. if yours is the third car its going in you'll need the VIN of the car it left the factory in, not the one it was removed from prior to your purchase.

I have the code. But I need the VIN number from the original car, as you mention, for my dealer to be able to fix the radio under warranty. So waiting for the VIN number from the seller. Somebody told me, that a UK dealer should be able to get the original VIN number from the radios serial number. Wrote an email to Preston Motors (saw the advert in here), but they don´t care to answer. Nice service. Not.
