Starting Problems when Cold

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

This Strange Problem has happened couple of times in Last two weeks. Also this happenes only when it is cold.

This Morning when starting the car I turned the key and waited for the glow plugs to go off for about 5 seconds and turned the car. It was trying to start and after 30 -45 seconds of me trying to start the car the car battery has completely drained.

I then Jump started my car using my friends car.

The question is do I need to replace my battery or my glow plugs.

I drove my car to halfords and they checked my car battery and they said it seems to be OK.

The car is 2003 superb 2.5 TDI and has done 165K. I have own this car for 4 years and haven't changed the battery nor the glow plugs.

Any help or Ideas would be much appreciated..

personally I would be getting the battery checked again

When jump started did the car run smoothly. If yes - then unlikely to be glow plugs - unless they are all out at once (electrical fault etc.) ....... so I would go with it being a weak battery. If the car started and ran very lumpy for a few minutes then you may have a faulty glow plug or two. My money is on the battery.
