How to remove handbrake cover?

Featured Replies

I know that there is a hidden catch / clip under the hand brake cover where I have indicated on the (stolen) picture, but how does it unclip?

I've tried pinching, squeezing, puling, lifting and swearing at it, but can't get it off.

Anyone know the secret and would be prepared to share it?

Thanks.

Is it that much of a secret?

Apparently you have to ask it nicely then it self-removes.

(sorry, no idea at all but worth a shot? )

The Fabia Mk1 has a little slot underneath where you tickle it and it falls off!

(It actually does have a slot)

But there's nothing on the Octavia! I'll try talking nicely to it and see what happens... But I won't hold out much hope.

Failing that, find nearest small sapling. Break off a small branch and give it a "damn good thrashing" whilst screaming warnings at it, Basil Fawlty style, until something happens!

Has nobody changed their handbrake cover when retro-fitting a Jumbo box?

I can't believe that I will be the first to do this...

Nope, no need to!

I know you don't have to, but it made sense to change to a leather one at the same time as the centre console was out (the joys of plastic bits on poverty spec cars).

Ah right, my original cover was at least leather, didn't know they did a plastic one, don't blame you for wanting to change it.

Slight update: the new leather short one I have has a little plastic tab inside that needs to be lifted with a screwdriver (or similar) to release it from the handbrake lever itself.

Assuming that the existing full plastic cover is the same, how would I get a tool stuff enough to release the tab in to do this job?

The sleeve reaches the floor (near enough) and isn't that flexible!

Any suggestions?

Finally got it off (with a but if damage).

There is a tab and slot where the red arrow is in the picture. Lever this downwards with a screw driver or something and pull the hand brake lever off.

Not easy to pull off - might be best done with two people so one can pull the lever after the other has moved the tab.

Hope that discovery helps someone, sometime.
