Newbie - but already have a question!

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Just bought myself a Octavia vRS diesel estate (2007) to replace an ageing Ford CMax which I absolutely hated (thought it was the right thing to buy at the time but regretted my decision ever since!). I love my new(ish) car but keep getting a message on the dash saying 'coolant low'. Obviously I've checked the level and all is fine - and it doesnt seem to be loosing any over the few journeys I've done so far. If I drive the car for a couple of meters then switch off then on again the message disappears and won't appear for maybe a couple days. Does it sound like a faulty coolant sensor or something more sinister? It only ever shows the message when the car is stone cold (i.e. been left overnight). The car has done 120k miles and still drives absolutely perfectly.

Thanks for your help!

likely a faulty coolant sensor. You could unplug the esensor at the expansion tank and check the contacts and wiring for corrosion, clean them up and see if that solves it.

If it's the same arrangement as the 1.9 engine in the Fabia the actual sensor is part of the expansion tank and you need to get a new one. They're not expensive and are a doddle to swap over.

thanks for a quick reply! I just gave my local dealer a call and they quoted £37 - does that sound about right? I'll definitely try to clean the contacts too.

Hello rsutherwood and welcome along
