EGR system

Featured Replies

Hi after buying ,my car in July and doing 3 miles in it due to going throught 3 clutch kits 2 flywheels and now on to my 3rd gearbox im hoping to have it back at the end of next week.

So the problem i have is the management light is on and a scan told me its the egr . Now when i bought the car i was informed that this has been removed./bypassed. I dont fully understand but i was told a resister could be used to stop the light coming back on.

I have tried searching the topic but to no avail. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction many thanks. Will

EGR delete is on diesels? Do you have a diesel octavia or a VRS?

sorry vrs its lee furies old one black with green bits

what was his forum name on here?

I'm assuming you mean its had secondary air pump removed... I would guess... there are one or two other things that can be removed that require resistors to fool them though

If you have a look under the bumper towards the front l.hand side of the engine (under the alternator) if there is a big black cylinder shaped thing thats the secondary air pump, if not then yeah its been removed

it looks like this (ignore the arrows)

try a search for "secondary air resistor" that should bring up a few relevant threads

hi name was furry on here i belive

i found this in the advert " n249/EGR/cat pre-heat systems removed- engine management light is on due to this"

Ah so he's removed the whole lot.

Yeah there are plenty of threads on here about the resistors. Some people have found that even with resistors fitted the EML doesn't go out so you need to get a mapper to map it out for you.

Can't remember whether an EML is an MOT fail at the moment or not if not I would just live with it

p.s. If thats the car I think it is (black one with green wheels) I would check the Divertor Valve is on as I got a horrible feeling he ran it without one for ages (not good for the turbo at all!)

it has a baileys type dv fitted on the cold air intake conected to nothing and a broom handle in the other pipe it made no noise at all it wasnt on the boost side

i have bought a recirculating type valve for this.

This car a has been a horror for me spent near 4k on it now and havnt done over 40mph lol

Good to hear the DV is fixed.

Yeah I got the impression from his past posts it wasn't being well looked after. High mileage as well. Sorry to hear you've had a bit of a nightmare with it but they are great cars once everythings sorted
