For some reason Sickbeard went really slow on my server and just starting having problems all the time. Switched to NZBDrone, much quicker and easier to use. (Does the same thing though) :)

  • Had you already used the 7 day free trial?

One final thing then how do you decide who to give your money to?

Do all the services access the same servers full of files or do they all have their own?

I'd hate to give my mine to the wrong people!

I've signed up to newsdemon and have got everything I've tried to get so far. I've signed up for the monthly unlimited deal they've got on offer at the moment. £4.44 for the first month and then £6.44 (I think) after that and that's including ssl. When you download a 22gb file that chews through a lot of allowance so I thought unlimited was the way to go!

22GB?!

Damn HD!

Yep, a certain new release with alien links. But most films you're looking at 4-8gb so you'll still get through any allowance pretty quick. I figured unlimited would work out cheapest.

For reference that one file is twice the size of the hard disk in the ancient desktop pc I presently use as a downloading mule!! :D

I've got a 750gb hd but I think I'll have to upgrade!

I got 2 TB that's nearly full, unlimited is the way to do it cheaper than a late returned blue rays from blockbusters

You sometimes get the odd incomplete file but on nzbmatrix it will usually say in the comments to save you a download

If you're after a lot of TV series, then the Sickbeard / Sabnzbd+ combination is excellent.

Just add the name of the TV shows you want to Sickbeard and (once it's all set up correctly!) it'll automatically connect to your choice of Usenet indexing service and check for new (and existing if you require) episodes of that particular show(s). Then sends the nzb file to Sabnzbd+ for scheduled downloading, Configure Sabnzbd+ to save your shows (or Movies, apps whatever) where you want them saved to (in my case, TV shows to "TV SHOWS" folder on my NAS, mapped as a network drive) and movies to the "MOVIES" folder, and it'll unRAR, fix if necessary and save the shows easily in a folder structure e.g.

T:\TV SHOWS\MODERN FAMILY\SEASON 1\Modern Family - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv

Sickbeard will even watch for "nuked" episodes (e.g. audio out of sync with video) and re-download a "proper" when one becomes available if you want it to!

Edited to add:

All the above information, I just heard from some bloke down the local pub. Who dreamt it all up!

That sounds great! A NAS is network attached storage? I'd like to use something like that but just dont know what is best, preferably something that doesn't need wifi to watch anything on the TV. I hate it when the internet starts playing up causing the film to start/stop :(

Exactly what I went for!

Also i've downloaded a couple of 'avi' files but which say complete. (I did see sabnzdb repairing them) When I go to the folder though the actually movie isn't there just other files like the image etc?

Xcom was broken to start with but by the next day it was working again. I've done 75gb in 2 days.

Have you tried vlc player in case it's a problem with whatever media player you're using? Vlc plays most stuff.

Are you looking in the right folder ?? IIRC you have a temp folder for the de-compression and then a completed folder

Yep i've got vlc but the problem I've got is the actual movie file isnt there.

I'm in downloads and in the complete folder which is where the others have gone. Its really strange! I've got a .nzb .iso .mds .jpg and a url in the folder? The iso plays but its just 17 secs long and just asks what language I want. I'm thinking might just be a bad file?

well here goes

sabnzb downloaded

newsdemon 10GB download purchased

binsearchinfo used to find some files

downloads started

415KBS which is loads better than any torrent i've ever downloaded

1 GB is still an hour and a half though....

it does only seem to be downloading one file at a time too

It's not quite as exciting when you've got a slow connection lol. Time to get fibre optic if you can.

***BREAKING NEWS***

PASTYBOY IN MONEY SPENDING SHOCKER!!!!!!

hell yeah! when i spend i spend big!

a whole £1.24 :D

Had you already used the 7 day free trial?

Just looked at my transfer stats on supernews, biggest month was 2.3 TB downloaded. :giggle:

Had you already used the 7 day free trial?

damn if only i'd known! ;)

first file downloaded.

failed unpacking due to CRC error.

what a waste of 17 pence

I've not had anything fail yet that's completed downloading. At least there's usually plenty of duplicates.

@pasty

I've not got the download program that you used but there is usually an option to have a certain number of threads going at once. The number may be restricted by the stream provider though.

Also can't you download the repair files to complete your failed download?

Yeah you can control the amount of connections, I think mine runs 50 but sometimes lowering them makes it dl faster. I'm out atm I'll check it out later, usually if the file is not complete I look for another

Ah yes i think i remember something in the set up about number of connections and i think i put 1.

that'd sort that out.

However file 2 now downloaded but also failed to unpack due to CRC error

Can you pm me what you've tried to download and I'll give it a try. See if its something your end or actually the files themselves.
